Re: My X30 Project
Another very weak point seems to be the plastic frame around the display. This thing has multiple cracks and a replacement is only available as part of the complete display kit. Fortunately this thing has nothing to do with stability. Btw: My new battery is very nice. It had only 7 cycles and first ...

Re: My X30 Project
I found a used battery in eBay for ~80$. It's original IBM/Lenovo bought in 01/2009 with 95% of capacity remaining. 80 bucks is still far from cheap, but rebuilds are only slightly cheaper and I prefer a 6 month old original battery over all crappy rebuilds... and this is definitely the last battery...

Re: My X30 Project
@tomh009: unfortunately there is also a little crack on the cardbus slot, but I fixed that with a bit of glue and a metal pin. @t140568: the two rubber feed int the back are still in place, the rubber feeds on the battery are missing, but I have to replace the battery anyway. Currently I'm still not...

Re: My X30 Project
I bought the BDC about 3 years ago from eBay... it's this baby: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Bluetooth_Daughter_Card_(BDC) The bluetooth antenna is hidden in the left display hinge: http://www.misi.jp/bluetooth/img/put_hinge_cover_s.jpg I was very lucky and got that thing for only 6$ in eBay. For a...

Re: My X30 Project
Hi t140568, I have a little X30 project on my own :D So far, I.. - upgraded to 1 GB Ram - upgraded to 320 GB Hdd - added a Bluetooth Doughter Card (BDC) - replaced the 802.11b WLAN miniPCI card with a 802.11bgn miniPCI card and added a third antenna - added a Cardbus-USB 2.0 card that vanishes compl...

Re: Battery supplier for X series
Both my replacement and original battery have 4400 mAh, but there are many 4800/5200 mAh replacement batteries available. But I'm really suspicious with the quality of "replacements". Besides the type of used cells, their age as well as the load-control are very important for a good overall performa...

Re: Battery supplier for X series
I also need a new battery for my X30, but the last time I bought a "replacement battery" from eBay, I was not very happy with it. The main problem was that last full capacity was not stored, thus the capacity approximation was totally wrong. Additionally the battery only had about 70% of capacity af...

I had some problems using WPA on the IBM high rate wireless II card, which also has a Prism 2.5 chipset. The drivers installed by windows update did work with WEP encryption, but not with WPA. The drivers on the IBM site did the job. As far as I know, you need to use Win XP with SP2 installed. I als...

@seneca: I don't think that BIOS functions can transparently encrypt the harddisk. As far as I know it only enables the passwort protection in the harddisk, which is indeed quite hard to bypass without professional help. But a data-recovery service can easily recover the unencrypted data. Correct me...

Your thinkpad seems to start with the lower speedstep setting. I think there is a bios option for the startup speed. Windows 2000 can't change the speedstep setting out of the box. You need to install the Intel speedstep driver. I think this is the right driver, but I'm not really sure: [url=http://...

I own a Thinkpad X30 and my girlfriend has my "old" X24. I'll try to give you a short overview: - the X30 has two memory slots for up to 1 GB RAM, the X24 has 128 MB onboard and one memory slot (max. 640 MB) - the screen brackets of the X30 are much more robust - the X30 is a little bit smaler than ...

I talked with an electrical engineer about this problem. He suggested to put some clue or hot-melt adhesive into the voltage converter to stop the vibrations. This should have no effect on the operation of the converter. I'm still not really sure about doing this (I bought the X24 only a week ago an...

X24 boot from usb cd-rom/dvd
Mack, I found a post of you about external usb cd-rom/dvd drives. I tried this and got exactly the same problem. I can only boot if the drive is not in suspend and as soon as the drive stops rotating the cd/dvd, there's no way to access the drive again. Did you find a solution to this problem, becau...

Jepp.. I have a IBM X24 2660-MPU and it is mainly used with Debian Linux but also with Win XP SP2. The removal of the keyboard is quite easy. Just remove 3 bolts at the bottom side of the notebook. Then you should be able to lift up the keyboard starting at the "mouse buttons". If you don't remove t...

Same Problem
I have exactly the same problem, but the frequency change was not really successfully. To fix this problem, I removed the keyboard to get access to the right upper corner. There I found the problem: one of the two voltage converters. I could remove most of the noise by gently putting some pressure o...
