Re: T420 Review

Could you comment on the fan noise of the unit? Specifically, there were many complaints about the high pitched whine from the new "owl feather" (or something like that) blade design.

Thanks!

Re: T60 won't turn on when plugged in

It will only start on battery, but recognizes the AC plugged in and charges, goes to AC mode, etc. as normal.

Tried different AC adapters so I assume it is something with the AC side of things. Looking for confirmation before I order new parts and spend a bunch of money

T60 won't turn on when plugged in

ok, so I can get the T60 started using the "push the power button 10 times and hold 30 seconds for the 11th time" method and I can get it to work consistently when only on battery power but I cannot get it to turn on when plugged in. Any solutions? I think this has to do with the power supply and ho...

Re: TPFancontrol and T410 "noise" solution

Did you do any testing of just the thermal paste change? Any comments on what you found regarding the factory thermal paste application?

I love this laptop, if the fan was just not so incredibly annoying...

Actually, according to IBM, any of their past models with Intel 950 integrated graphics will not support DVI out through a docking station - hence my question.

I do welcome anyone to correct me on this, if they can test.

Thanks

t61 x3100 - will it support dvi out on a dock?

In the past, only models with discrete graphics cards (ATI, Nvidia) would support DVI out on the docks that offered the proper output. Thinkpads with Intel graphics would not. Given all that Intel has improved, and that the x3100 chipset supports DVI, can anyone confirm that a T61+x3100 can output D...

I'm not sure how this happened, but I now have a T61 on the way after thinking the worst - that it would never get here - and I've now made other laptop plans. IF it arrives, or I can confirm shipping, I will (with admin permission) post it for sale in pure, unopened, condition and reasonable price....

No offense, but that was most likely the z60t, as they do not carry the m model. Only matters to this conversation as the z60t is noted to have only 1 backlight and uneven, dim lighting. The t43 on display is not the flexview, so your comparison is the same as mine when looking at the retail models ...

Thanks, asiafish. I'm pretty confident this is not a maxbrite screen, but it does seem to have more glare than I'm used to. I've also discovered in the interim that the luminance measurement on this screen is about 60% of any other laptop I could get my hands on to measure - including a 4 year old D...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking something is actually wrong with the unit - the luminance measures around 69 to 71 at full brightness, which is nowhere close to any other laptop I can get my hands on. Even a four yr old dell measures 130! I'm thinking I have something defective, as the z60m is...

That would be great! All I really need is to know what your luminance measurement is with the screen brightness on full and the ATI control panel set to default gamma, brightness and contrast. If you use the 2.7.7 version of Photocal, this should be right at the part where it shows the red, green, a...

If you waited this long, I'd wait a little longer.

I got in a hurry and ordered a Z60M and am sorely dissapointed in the screen brightness and viewing angle and looking for comparisons with others experiences - especially since I bought from a non-returnable source and am otherwise stuck.

Z60M owners - what brightness level do you typically run?

I'm looking for some feedback from other Z60m owners as to what brightness level you typically run at. I thought mine was looking a little dim, and then realized I had to run it at full brightness to suit me. This is unusual, as I'm always the one complaining that my friends monitors are too bright....

Anyone with a colorvision spyder and z60M to compare w/mine

Something just doesn't look right on my brand spankin' new z60M so I measured the luminance with Colorvision Photocal and the original Spyder. The z60m, not a maxbright, measured only mid 70's at full brightness and default color values in the ATI driver. My old Dell 600m even measures almost 104! 3...

While I'm not under the expectation that a laptop should look like a desktop LCD panel in terms of brightness, there is a wide gulf between what I'm looking for and this LCD. z60m - Actual weight from someone who owns one?

I have a z60m on order and the Sales Rep reported a 6.2lb base weight. Could someone who has one post the actual (or as close as you can figure) weight of one?

Prefer non-titanium lid model with 6-cell battery.

Thanks!
