You will appreciate the HD+ panel.
As for graphics, unless you do heavy architectural/design work I don't think you need a discrete GPU, consider you get less battery life and more heat. The HD3000 graphics performance is very nice.

Re: MacArthur Park, or Why I bought a ThinkPad
A shame on the drive, but the damage limitation was there, good you put the parts on rice, I've never had a disaster with my Thinkpad and knock on wood.
As a matter of fact I'm waiting to get a T420, can't wait to start using it.

Re: Thinkpad Dilemma - what to do?
To answer the OP, I decided to get ultimately "maybe" my last Thinkpad. I will be getting a T420 with HD+ screen. I've read some reviews and in one of them one guy rated him as a recommended model to get, the keyboard according to him is in the Top 3 of all The Thinkpads he has used in the past. Tom...

Re: Just ordered this model 2516-ADU
Hey Bass I'm getting a used T420 as a replacement for my T61 SXGA+, I plan on installing XP on it, I know, many people would blame for not stepping to a more modern OS but that's how I like it. I experimented a bit using XP 64 bits on my T61 with bittersweet results: - If you have more than 3GB and ...

Thanks for the link. LOL with the title "The Best Just Got Worse" Tomorrow I get my hands on my new baby: An almost new T420 with HD+ screen, the last T series with the traditional Thinkpad keyboard. I'm finally moving to the Widescreen realm, my T61 SXGA+ has served me superbly well but is time to ...

Thanks for the reply. Before your response I used your suggestion (TAB) and the label of the USB was "LIVE", I typed it in lowercase, and it said it didn't find that source, I think is because is case sensitive right? Anyways, what I found out is the Fedora utility tool to make the USB bootable as y...

Error installing Fedora 16 on X61s
Hello All! Yesterday I bought a used X61s, since my T61 machine uses Windows I plan on installing a flavor of Linux and I've been curious to use Fedora. Anyways, I downloaded the Fedora-16-i686-Live-Desktop.iso, and used the instructions on the Fedora homepage to create a bootable USB with the image...

Re: Which hard drive for T61? WD 320gb or Hitachi 320gb (5400)
If you use the laptop on a quiet room and the fan is not kicking very often you would find annoying the sound a 7200rpm drive makes, it's just plain physics, the more rotational speed the more noise. I was in this quest 3 years ago, and finally settled for a Hitachi 5K500.B 250GB drive inside my T61...

Using a T61 with a SXGA+ screen and Intel chip is the epytome of what you could ask for if you like 4:3 so much.
I may upgrade my processor to a T9300 but I'm fairly happy with my T61. I'm worried the day I should move to another newer system. I hate those 16:9 screens.

Hello, yesterday my T61 started acting weird. My batt is set to charge up to 42%, weird thing is that when I shut down the machine, unplugged the AC adapter the battery led would not power off. Then I powered it again and removed the AC cord again but the battery led would still be flashing green as...

Re: GUIDE: Reflow GPU fix - 56K WARNING!!!
I purchased a cheap T42 with leds on but no video and fan constantly on. I thought it was the GPU but now after some failed attempt of reflowing it still the machine does not display video but still powers onn. I am concerned if I did the reflow correctly or is most likely a Northbridge or Southbrid...

Can you reflow the southbridge just like on the GPU?
The problem referred to the OP that the machine is stuck on the BIOS display means there is a problem with the SB or also with the GPU?

Re: Radeon 7500 problems after T40 upgrade to T43 SXGA+ LCD
I'm now confused! I always though a 7500 planar wouldn't take the SXGA+ resolution, or maybe it was the Intel graphics being unable to drive those 1400x1050 pixels. I bought a T41p with the typical GPU problem cheaply, I reflowed the chip and instantly came to life, I then moved some parts from my d...

So not all motherboard from the T4x series are compatible with the SXGA+ screen. Im trying to salvage a dead motherboard from my old T42p but I can't find one here in Mexico with the FireGL chip.
How can you tell which version of motherboard you have by looking physically at it?

Very interesting find!~
Just what I needed it. I will take apart my T61 fan to lube the bearings too. It's been 2 years since I'm using this machine so I guess it's time to do some lubing. Right now I'm using no fan but the thing heats up

Re: T61 TPFanControl GPU 75/ 76 Degrees C. Hot! How to check OK?
Dust clogging the exhausts is the culprit of your problem. You need to get a can of compressed air, remove the keyboard, put a pencil on one of the blade's fan and blow from the inside out air. After a while dust settles in the blades, inside the heatpipes and heat dissipation is compromised, as a m...

Can I lube the bearings of my T61 fan? It has started making a noise, not tolerable when you're on a quiet spot, it sounds like something is loose.
