all the op in the 2nd post had to do was mount his existing linux install from a live distro that has internet access. something in this manner lsblk mount /dev/sda3 assuming sda3 is linux mint, sda2 is windows and sda1 is the boot partition so it would be mount /mnt/sda3 /mnt then chroot into that ...

[Joke] Bill left a bottle of scotch on top of the server and his parrot got loose. During the ensuing brief flight, the bottle got knocked on the server. The only sensible thing to do was to quickly grab the bottle, finish it off and get a new server. [/joke] I have no clue what happened. I was worr...

If you're doing the FHD upgrade, can I assume you have the 1366x768 LCD in there now?

That is one nice looking T520 you have there. I hope it serves you well for many years to come.

I am 95% that is the machine I am going to upgrade to from my T410.

Neither is my T410 "supported" by Lenovo on Windows 10, but it runs great. I am going to re-iterate what I said earlier in the thread. Get a spare HD and try a clean install. If you don't have one, Newegg sells laptop HDD's for cheap. Considering it's an experiment, I would buy a 250 WD blue and see...

With regards to the 840 EVO line of SSD's some people had an issue where old files would take longer to read. That being said, I and many others I know have installed the 250GB EVO in their Thinkpads and the only issue they have is that the computer is now faster than they are. Mine works great in m...

Interesting side note. I was watching a video on Lenovo's web site earlier today about the Thinkpad Carbon 2 and they mentioned it.

Oh, I am aware of the "issue" with regards to "old" (define old) files and slower read times. I've already applied the patch and updated my firmware. Maybe if I were on a SATA3 system it might show up? I check weekly in the Magician software to see if it's reporting any issues or starting to use som...

Ugh, 16:9. That's one of the main things that I love about my T410 and why it's so hard for me to find a suitable upgrade from it. I don't really need to upgrade as the machine handles everything I throw at it. I do wish the LCD had better viewing angles though. I'm actually kind of relieved about t...

T510 LCD Question

So I love my T410 very, very much. But I want more screen space but I do not want 16:9 ratio.

So it would appear that the T510 is what I am looking at. What is the best LCD in terms of viewing angles, brightness and resolution that is available? The machines themselves seem pretty cheap on e-bay.

Start the computer? As in, power on using the fingerprint reader? I was unaware that Thinkpad's could do that.

Re: Reliable SSD drives for the X220

FWIW, I have been running a 250GB EVO in my T410 for going on 2 years now. I've never had an issue with it. Ever.

I do keep my data backed up. But not because i'm worried about the drive. But because as with SSD's, data recovery is a PITA if it is even possible.

I would buy another EVO.

I've purchased 3rd party batteries many times in the past and without fail, they all either didn't work or failed within 6 months.

I would highly recommend the T410 over any T400 or T6x unit. You will get an iSereies CPU which are fantastic, support for DDR3 (Which the T400 also has IIRC) and a more modern system overall. My personal T410 (specs in signature) is a real workhorse for both work and play. It's the best Thinkpad I ...

Anything after the T500? I am going to have to disagree with you. The T410 in my signature is my primary laptop. It is by far, hands down, the best computer or laptop I have *EVER* owned. That's saying a lot. I've owned close to 100 laptops and about 50 desktops. None of them were as rock stable as ...

Seems like everyone beat me to the punch.

But yes, if the system has 4GB or more of RAM, then an SSD would be the best single upgrade you can do.

That being said, my T410 has 8GB of RAM and an SSD. This machine absolutely fly's running Windows 10.
