Re: replacing drive
I bought a WD Scorpio Black 500 GB drive to replace the old 100 GB drive in my T60. The 500 GB drive was placed in the T60, the 100 GB in an external USB enclosure, and the T60 was booted with a WD Acronis CD. I cloned the 100 GB drive and Acronis offered to allocate the whole 500 GB in one partitio...

Windows 2000 does not know how to deal with SATA hard drives. Try the link below for instructions on loading the necessary driver.

Re: Thinkpad T43 and external Hard Drive wont connect
Do you mean the light on the external USB hard drive enclosure flashes red? Most of these USB enclosures come with a cable that has two USB connectors on the end. One of the USB connectors is for extra power only and it has no data contacts. Maybe you are using the wrong connector or maybe the hard ...

Re: How to force Excel to always open with same spreadsheet?
Here are a few references I found in a quick search. Save the file into the XLStart folder, which is created when Excel is installed. In Windows XP, this folder is located at C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART. Anytime you open Excel, it automatically opens all...

Re: ThinkPad 600 error 1201
Wow Ray, that sounds like a lot of work. You can use PS2 to disable the Infra Red port. On the 600X by default the IR port is enabled and the serial port disabled. I need to use the serial port but not the IR port so I use PS2 to set the 600X the way I want it. On the 600E (when I had one) it was ne...

Re: T60 is dead!
Measure the output voltage of the AC Adapter. It should be 20 volts DC. If that checks ok, remove the battery from the T60 and try to start it with just the AC Adapter plugged in.

Re: How do I know a larger drive will fit in my T60p?
This page http://www3.toshiba.co.jp/storage/engli ... /index.htm implies that only the largest drives, 750GB and 1TB are advanced format. I would expect everything else in the list is not advanced format.

Re: Battery,Charger or Charging circuit???
The hardware maintenance manual explains how to disassemble the T43. Get it at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-58791 There is more to the DC input circuitry than the power jack. The system board has a number of fuses on it and one of those might be blo...

Re: How do I know a larger drive will fit in my T60p?
I have only used alignment software on an external drive in a USB enclosure. It worked well in that application but I have not used alignment software on a bootable drive. Western Digital's competitors do offer advanced format drives but I have no specific information on their model numbers. A visit...

Western Digital drives smaller than 500GB are not advanced format types. Advanced format drive model numbers end with BPKT while the non advanced format drive model numbers end in BEKT. See the Scorpio selector guide at http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/S ... 701275.pdf

In a nut shell, why avoid the advance function with XP? What if at some future date I will upgrade to latest Windoze? Thanks for the reply. XP does not run well on advanced format drives unles you run alignment software. You didn't say anything about upgrading to a newer OS so it would be easier to...

Re: How do I know a larger drive will fit in my T60p?
Hard drives are a standard size dimensionally and the Western Digital drive you referenced is 9.5mm thick so it will fit. 500GB is no problem for the bios in a T60. Since you are using Windows XP, avoid the advanced format drives and pick up the older style instead. At New Egg that is their type num...

Re: ThinkPad T60 Network problem
You can turn off the wireless from a switch on the front of the T60, leaving Ethernet as your only network connection. To force Wireless only, turn the switch back on and unplug the Ethernet cable. All the routers I know of for home use have a hardware firewall.

Re: T60, Windows won't start, audible error, is this HD failure?
Here is an example of a restore operation I did with Acronis WD. A Samsung 40GB hard drive in a Thinkpad 600X was backed up to a WD 1TB Caviar Green hard drive in a USB enclosure. The backup image was then restored from the WD Caviar drive in the USB enclosure to a second Thinkpad 600X containing a ...

Re: T60, Windows won't start, audible error, is this HD failure?
I believe that Acronis TrueImage is provided as a download with my fairly recent purchase of a Western Digital Green 2TB WD20EARS HD. I don't know if it includes this feature, though. I believe I have the download saved to one of my computers, but I haven't dabbled with it yet. :| I suspect it's a ...

That's probably because you aren't picky. I have used four Acer LCD monitors and they are all terrible. When I got the first one, I too was happy with it, but after getting used to PVA and IPS monitors, I couldn't tolerate Acer any more. I still have two of these Acer monitors but I let my students...

Re: T60 (2007-DD1) Will Not Power On
Reset is done with battery removed and AC adapter unplugged. In addition to all the things you removed, take out all the memory and see if you get beep codes indicating no memory. If not and if the unpowered reset does not work it is likely a bad system board.

You can try the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility available at http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html Be advised that Microsoft has removed this utility from their site because it sometimes damages programs other than the target program. That said, I used it to ...

Ebay policy is that negative statements left for a buyer that conflict with the positive rating are not allowed. You can ask Ebay to remove the feedback you received that violates policy.
