Re: The ultimate* 4:3 FrankenPad...brace yourself...HUGE pics

Hence, it being out of my ballpark. :) I would love to know, assuming someone has done that successfully, how to do it, though. The question is whether I'd be happy with the original WUXGA in the first place assuming I realize I can't pull off the mod. I do wonder about native LG WUXGA brightness co...

Re: Question about screen common parts - T500 vs T61

Clarification on the webcam issue. T61 only had webcams on the 14.1" wide screen models. Webcams were an option on the 15.4" R61 only Interesting. It's obviously been a few years, but I remember seeing it. I suppose it could have been a grayed-out option, but I think I would have remembered that. A...

Re: USB 3.0 Express Card Problem

Glad I could help.

That's the added price we pay for buying the cheaper peripherals. Trust me; I've done the same before (dongles, wifi, bluetooth, IR, etc) and learned what I have out of necessity by finding what's often not supplied. ;)

Well, one can dream; can't they?

Besides, the screen is the next foreseeable replacement on my T61, and I've hated the LG with a passion for some time.

I too, googled that string without any hits, but consider that the "VEN" in the string is vendor, and pare down the string to just that, and we get: NEC. Now, put NEC and USB 3.0 Expresscard driver together: https://www.google.com/search?q=nec+usb+3.0+expresscard+driver One of the first hits might h...

Re: USB 3.0 Express Card Problem

Low-end name brand = generic.

Is there an FCC ID on the bottom label? (Newegg conveniently chooses not to show that side in their listing) If not, I still recommend checking the hardware ID to identify the chipset. Identifying the controller chipset is the best lead to find current drivers.

Re: USB 3.0 Express Card Problem

Is it a generic? If Windows Update doesn't find a driver, it didn't come with any driver disc, and there's none on the mfgr website (likely there is none if it's generic), then the only recommendation is to look at the hardware properties under device manager. Go to the details tab, and scroll to "H...

I assume you already bought an SSD, since that will offer the biggest performance boost (over CPU or RAM).

Yes. There are several threads in this subforum about that, and another subforum about OSX on ThinkPads as well.

I finally got Lion running on a 2nd HDD partioned with Mint as well, but I've not installed any production software on it yet. I'm still feeling it out.

I use a Thinkpad USB Laser Mouse ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74163 ) and i have no complaints. Sure its not the best mouse ever made, but it does its job quite well. I have the Bluetooth version of that. I love the look of it, but I was disappointed that it couldn...

Re: turbo memory

It became redundant when I upgraded to an SSD and 8GB of RAM, but I used to throw in a lower-capacity (2-4GB) SD card into the reader slot for ReadyBoost. I think there was a slight improvement (lots of access LED blinks anyhow).

Cubase will run, and ProTools probably will too, since I've heard of T61 hackintoshes being able to run the Mac build.

@Radioguy and @Tasurinchi, that is the Nexus Dock (free) from Winstep. It works great on windows 7 and 8. Very convenient for pen/touch thinkpads. The black/red colors is one of the default themes, in the settings I think I had to either make the color black or red. I hope that helps! Than...

Of course, but even the latest version of the HMD (v1.83) can still be run from a floppy, unlike BIOS updates (traditionally the last holdout for floppies) which can be burned to optical discs or run from an HD.

I do think I got a bump in speed when doing multimedia file conversion by upping to the T9300, but the lower temps, and reduced fan use because of it, was what sold me.

If only the batteries were still good, the 760x models would still be great on-the-go word processors. I'm sure some version of Open Office (also Linux) would run great on one. IIRC, there were some other third-party UB options too, like Superdisk, Zip, and I believe the previous series' TV module m...

I can understand where the others are coming from, but when, and if, you decide to ever sell a TP, those stickers can be useful. Most don't apply them back if they ever remove them, so it's something to look for when shopping for a second-hand PC; especially those stickers which indicate discrete gr...
