Re: Removing Lenovo logos off clearplates/badges *pictures*

That would be a gooey mess in no time. To deal with the 'lenovo' bezel logos on the newer thinkpads, you'd need to use some sort of filler that can be painted and hardens nicely. Then you'd need to repaint the whole top lid so it looks consistent and like nothing ever happened. A gentle wet sanding ...

Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC

Most refer to them as "Camera Shops" and there are still plenty despite "going out of business" every other week. And the chances of one of these carrying decade old ThinkPad parts - let alone for a reasonable price - are...? Right. The former are good, the latter are not. I used to work on W36th b...

2x Xeon Quad CPUs + 20GB in RIMMs Vs. any Core i based machine?

Just thought I'd ask here as well... Have an opportunity to receive (or be saddled with) an XW6600 with two E5410 Quad Xeons, and 20GB (RIMMs) on board. I just wondered how the real-world performance would be today. I know it's Peryn-era already, but how far behind will this fall behind a Core I mac...

Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC

How many computer shops are actually left on 42nd street? Not to mention that even when there were quite a few of them between W30th and W45th, their prices were nothing short of atrocious, due to the insanely high rents in NYC which has driven most of them out of business altogether... Most refer ...

Beautiful job! :D

I had toyed with doing the same for the LONGEST time, but I'm glad I didn't have to be the guinea pig.

Now if you can only figure out a way to deal with the separate "lenovo" inset logos on the LCD covers... ;)

FYI, if you remove it from the T500 heatsink, the T500 fan is an improvement over (either of) the T61 fans.

I would head to 42nd street and ask at every computer shop.
Sadly, they will sit on those until someone comes in desperate enough to pay twenty times their worth.

I can't bring myself to ever do this. Re: THINK Note pad refills

It's all fulfilled by STAPLES' Promotional Item Department. I assume most, if not all, of the items are the same selection as what they make available for other companies, with just the logos changed. That does make me think the tech items are probably not as quality as I first thought. The Eye-Bee-...

The R61 can accommodate a Blu-Ray writer in the Ultrabay. It's about the only upgrade I envied when I used my T61 (which is too thin to accommodate it).

I hate to be a wet blanket, but even were you to get these made, all TP palm rest and lid sticker recesses wouldn't accommodate these due to the extra characters. :(

Ah, so there goes my patent. ;)

Yes, those are what I was thinking of, but the 32GB cap is disappointing. This was suggested while looking at that Amazon listing:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002JIAXOY/

A tad bigger, but can do at least 64GB. That's on my to-buy list now. :D

Re: Advanced dock Fan switch mod.

I've considered this same mod, although with a rocker rather than a toggle. While it might more tactile, the toggle stands out a bit too much as a repair or mod. The rocker would be more flush, and only a ThinkPadder would notice it being out of place.

Still, you did the mod.

Re: Flush-mount Laptop Adapters Part 3: SD/SDHC/SDXC *PICS*

Given the desire for flush-style adapters, and how some USB Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongles are nearly flush, has there been a USB MicroSD(XC) card reader that was flush (or nearly so)?

With the already tiny size of MicroSD, a card could almost get lost in a female USB port. :)

I possess a NETGEAR/Sierra Wireless 771S (Sprint Zing) AirCard portable hotspot, with an activated Sprint SIM. Those are useful for all laptops, not just ThinkPads. Honestly, the only thing I find myself really wanting on a X301 is an externally-accessible SD card reader. That's been the sole drawback I don't understand.
