I run my machine using a clean install of XP SP2 Lite Version without the service partition.

Just disable the Predesktop Area and delete all partitions and the install Windows XP, burning the contents of the I386 folder in C root to a C, make it bootable and voilá. all the space ready to use

you really need the long fan. you should not run the short fan, it will fry the gpu if you do. You mean absolutely fry it (to become unusable) or that will cause the freeze. I bought a E7K100 60GB HDD 7200rpm for about 77 USD in a sealed bag and it worked right away in my T42P.
