Re: Extreme lagging on T60 while browsing and watching Youtube recently
That said I know for a fact that if you do the software rendering override option, even on a GMA 950 with a Core 2 duo T7200 it will actually start doing 720p youtube videos perfectly fine, with GMA 950 taking some small loads while the T7200 taking the rest. Interesting. How do I do that? I found ...

Yes, as TPFanatic mentions - there are ups and downs to both designs.

Re: Favorite 32-Bit Windows XP Thinkpad?
This is actually an interesting point - with an Thinkpad X system, the Ultrabase can be used on the lap and provide insulation from the heat. Can't quite use the larger T/R/Z series docks this way. I have an X32, X61 and X220, all with Ultrabases. However, mostly they are used as stationary docking ...

Only if the keycaps are physically the same size. This depends on the exact laptop model. And you have to remove them very carefully without breaking any part of the mechanism.

Another thing to pay attention to is that in WinVista/Win7 - Aero is hardware-accelerated, while Classic and Basic themes are not. With a somewhat capable GPU (don't know if the X1400 counts as such), 2D desktop stuff, including video, will actually perform better with an Aero theme, than without it...

Re: What other models have compatible touchpads to the t60?
I would expect all T6x/R6x/Z6x have the same touchpad, even when the palmrest assembly itself is different. I haven't verified this.
I would also expect T/R*00 are different. They look different for sure.
There's this, for example:

It's not exactly the same - the port layout on the left side is different. https://u.cubeupload.com/dr_st/TP25X1CXXLeft.jpg I think right side is the same, but it probably doesn't matter, since the part you would need to replace will cover both sides. Re: About the R61 7735-CTO
Hi and welcome to the forum! :) -CTO means "configured to order" or "customized to order". These are machines which were customized on Lenovo's website, either in individual or bulk orders, as opposed to being based on an existing 'Topseller' configuration. This means, unfortunately, that it is diff...

Any old machine is usable for web browsing if you use a script blocker. My X301 is way slower but still useful for basic tasks. Except, not the entire web is browsable, if you use a script blocker. Just don't expect modern peformance or capabilities and you'll be happy. Try to use software from tha...

Re: Thinkpad T420 suddenly apparently rejecting battery, unsure whether battery or laptop causes the issue
I meant that I'm trying to avoid buying a battery that (as a couple examples) has a "70++" logo which doesn't actually meet this standard, or buy a battery labeled as for example Duracell when it is in fact a cheaply-made copy that isn't associated with that company at all. I mean, a misrepresented...

Re: Thinkpad T420 suddenly apparently rejecting battery, unsure whether battery or laptop causes the issue
Another concern I'm trying to solve is that I'll eventually need a replacement battery regardless. The websites of Lenovo and Encompass have been out of stock of batteries for the T420 for years, or at least they are now and they were in summer 2019 when I last needed a battery. Those companies wil...

Re: Need a Thinkpad recommendation - 2009 Era
Welcome to the forum! :) Gaming-wise, if you have space for a proper desktop, and you already have some of those spare parts - no Thinkpad from that era is going to match an E8400 + 9800GTX. Period correct would be T400/T500/W500 series. As you can see, their top-end is pretty low compared to your h...

Re: HELP! I Cant access BIOS menu during windows 11 start
Glad it helped! On Thinkpads where I don't feel like disabling fast startup, I use a different trick - I put a power-on or hard-drive password (which I want to do anyway). The password prompt comes up even if the laptop is resuming from hibernation. If you turn the computer off at the prompt, by hol...

Re: X1 Carbon 5th gen upgrade suggestions to recent model carbon/yoga/nano
Well, because of the move from dual to quad-core CPUs, there is a chance that even an X1C6 will feel much faster than your X1C5. While being exactly the same form factor and almost the same ports. If you could get one cheaply, and maybe recoup some of the price difference by selling the X1C5, it mig...

Re: Lost wireless on t420 - can’t get it back
The T420 does have a WiFi hardware switch. I believe it's on the back right, next to the SD slot. See this pic:
If it's stuck in the off position, switch it on. If it's in the on position, and the SW detects it as off, the switch may be broken.

Re: HELP! I Cant access BIOS menu during windows 11 start
Disable "Fast Startup" in your Windows 11. With it on (which is the default), Windows doesn't shut down, instead it hibernates, and when resuming from hibernation, the BIOS does not go through the full startup cycle, which among other things, provides the window during which you can access BIOS / bo...

I'm not sure it can be determined from exterior images. Does the website give the LCD lid (rear cover) FRU for your serial number? I believe the FRU for the magnesium lid is 01AX955.

No need for third party utilities except TinyWall. I really cannot recommend that firewall enough. Windows own firewall will bypass your settings if you try to block Windows update, but I've confirmed that TinyWall works (and is virus free via VirusTotal). I strongly recommend it. If you have Win11...

Re: W520 w/ Mini Dock Plus Series 3 wattage error
I don't think it's a problem with the charger. The laptop detects the charger wattage via a handshake that measures the resistance across the sense wire (center pin) of the charger's barrel plug. If the connection somewhere along the path of dock power socket --> docking port on dock --> docking por...
