In the interest of full disclosure: we have two of these machines in this household. The one that is offered for sale here is my wife's unit that was her desktop replacement for the past 7-8 months...until she fell in love with a younger ThinkPad...
...
the basics:
ThinkPad T43p (2668-VQ7)
Based on 2668-CTO:
P M 780(2.26GHz)
2GB RAM
80GB 7200rpm HD.................now 320GB/7200 Hitachi SATA
15in 1600x1200 LCD.............now 15" 1400x1050 (LG Philips SXGA+ IPS FlexView)
128MB ATI FireGL V3200
CDRW/DVDRW
Wireless upgradeable.................now Intel 2200BG
Modem..................................now Bluetooth/Modem
1Gb Ethernet
UltraNav
Secure chip
Fingerprint reader
9c Li-Ion batt
WinXP Pro....................COA and recovery partition intact
Things to know about this unit, please read carefully:
a) This is a non-factory, SATA-modded example of a high-end T43p. There is no possible upgrade - apart from a wireless "n" card - left to be performed on this machine, it is completely maxed out in all respects. The SATA modification is described here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94308
The mod on this particular machine was performed by my dear friend Dominic, known to most of you as RealBlackStuff. While the machine runs stunningly well (see the benchmark below), the HDD light on the clear plate does NOT work, which is a commonplace for the units that went through this mod.
b) The bottom of this T43p states that it was "assembled in the U.S. of U.S. and non-U.S. components for Lenovo". The build date is August of 2006.
c) My wife has a *strong* preference for SXGA+ over UXGA, hence the screen swap. If you like the idea of owning this unit but would prefer an UXGA panel installed, talk to me and we'll likely come to an agreement.
d) Here's the HD Tune benchmark taken while the machine was running W7 Home:

e) If you're really interested in WEI scores for this hot-rod, here they are:
CPU: 4.1
RAM: 4.4
GPU (Aero) : 4.0
GPU (gaming) : 3.8
HDD : 5.9
Not bad for a model that was originally introduced in the spring of 2005, almost seven years ago...
Had they introduced it with a SATA drive, the whole ThinkPad history might have been very different...but that's something no one will ever know for sure, and some of us will keep on speculating about...
known imperfections:
- a small piece of plastic chipped off the base under the VGA port, no frame damage and not really visible under normal circumstances, but it must be mentioned nevertheless
- one pixel-size gray dust spec in the middle of otherwise clean FlexView LCD
- normal wear on the lid/bottom
Now comes the most difficult part, even for silly old me: pricing this unit...
I will guarantee this ThinkPad against DOA and to arrive as described, apart from that it is being sold "as-is".
Cash, personal cheque, USPS/Canada Post money order or MoneyBookers accepted as payment methods. No PreyPal.
PM or email me directly to tataslonATaol.com with any questions/concerns.
