I called Lenovo support and they said it was going to cost around $52 for the discs.
That seems a bit expensive.

Anyone have a set for sale?
I believe the FRU is 87H4753, Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

My machine type is 7764.
Thanks!

I have a vista setup disc if that interests you. It's actually much better in my opinion to install the vista, then run system update and it will install all the drivers and as much, or as little of the bloatware as you want.

The discs lenovo provides takes hours to install and makes multiple copies of all the outdated drivers and software, then when finally done, you need to update and replace it all. It would be great if it wasn't 5 year old software on the discs.

Send me a PM if you you want a setup disc.

TuuS makes a great point. The generic Vista disc will get the tablet working plenty well enough for you to get System Update going. The full recovery's main goal is to get everything working, but it will almost all need to be updated.

However, I've been thinking about what might be on those recovery discs that you might miss. The only bit of pre-installed software I can think of that I really love is InterVideo Virtual Drive. It works really well, even better than having an optical drive some times, because it can load multiple images simultaneously. I've seen references to other free disc virtualization software, but I really like using this "built-in" one. Seems like IBM/Lenovo made sure to provide the disc-less machines with a good workaround. I don't know if that software is available for free anywhere but off those discs.

I have a set of Vista recovery discs for my X61 Tablet, but I've been hesitating to mention them, because I cannot confirm exactly what they are. My X61T came used as a potential replacement for my X60T (which won't die:D). It came with Vista, but I immediately ordered the XP downgrade discs for it. It now has a test installation of Win7, but before doing that I burned Vista recovery discs and imaged the drive. I labeled the discs "X61 Vista Recovery Boot Disc" and "X61 Vista Recovery Disc 1 of 1." The first is a bootable CD, and the second is a dual-layer DVD. The real reason I hesitate is that I realized this week that my CoA is WinXP not Vista. Perhaps the laptop came with the free Vista upgrade or something. I find it funny that Lenovo sold me the XP downgrade discs for my machine when the serial number (unbeknownst to me at the time) was for an originally WinXP-licensed machine.

I can happily send you a copy of these if you want that option. I've never run them, but if you don't find confirmed recovery discs, it may be worth trying these out to see what you get (yes, it can take hours). I don't remember much about the Vista on my X61T, but I remember it seemed to be a factory default setup with Lenovo software. My discs are a year old, as that's when I acquired my X61T.

I can't find my X61T XP downgrade discs, but I can look a little more if you think you may want those. I think they are a pack of OS disc(s) plus driver discs.

A few bucks should cover discs and shipping.
