Information about IPS panel of a T60p

Hi,

I was the lucky owner of a T60p with a IPS screen. I use past because my thinkpad was stolen in a train some monthes ago. Now, I'm using my old R32, but of course I'd like to buy a new laptop, probably a X220. Anyway I'd like to have a 15'' to use it at home and I'm looking to find a used or refurbished T60p.

Well, as on ebay I found a T60p 15'' SXGA with ATI 256MB in mint condition, I'd like to buy it. Looking on the photo I saw that the model number is 2007-CTO. I looked for it on the Lenovo site but they say that it's a "Configure-To-Order system" and there are not more details. (They also say it's a T60, even if on the item it's printed T60p: something of similar happened with my stolen thinkpad: I bought it as a T60, but at the end of the day was a T60p). Now, according to the list published on thinkwiki a such screen should be a IPS one, but of course I'd like to be sure before buying the laptop.

Is there anyone able to help me?

Thank you very much and best regard.

Try contacting the seller and asking for the "Product ID" located on the bottom of the T60/T60p - You could then try to look up the config to confirm if the ThinkPad is a T60 or T60p by clicking on "Use Quick Path" at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/default.page

Generally T60/T60p LCD's be it a SXGA+ or UXGA originally from IBM/Lenovo are all IPS/FlexViews if they have not been changed out.

Also do checkout this forums marketplace to see if any forum members has any T60p's for sale etc - There have been some MINT condition one's available recently - :thumbs-UP:

I believe that the product ID is not all that descriptive if it's a CTO.
There is also the possibility with any used machine that the user has had to replace the LCD panel, and may have downgraded it.

I think the only way to ascertain what screen is installed (besides asking the owner, and trusting his information) is to run some kind of software like Everest, that might give an indication of what is actually installed.

As far as I know, all T60Ps are supposed to come with Flexviews screens.

Again, relying on the honesty of the seller, you could have him take photos of the screen off axis vertically and horizontally, and see if the screen retains most of its color and clarity, without a "reversal" effect evident.

Ciao

I've sold 20+ of these in the past few months. I can tell you that finding one that is free of screen blemishes is about 1 in 1000 as they come off corporate lease. The ones I got were cherry picked before thousands of these went to brokers, then off to sites like ebay. If you read the terms of sale on ebay, if a computer is listed as used, it's allowed to have all kinds of normal wear and tear, including scratches, dead pixels, dim backlights, and pressure marks, so unless your seller specifically states it's a perfect screen, expect otherwise.

To give you an idea of price, I originally sold 18 flawless units (less harddrive) for $250, then a couple that were 99% perfect but has some minor blemishes for $210 (probably far better then the ones one ebay). More recently I got some more flawless ones but had to get $300 for them because I couldn't even buy them for $250 anymore.

The CTO systems can be identified by doing a parts lookup using the serial number, however Lenovo's database is buggy, not all serial numbers are listed, but it often works, however you'll have to look up the fru numbers to see exactly what each part is, and that doesn't assure you it's still in the system 5 years later.

I don't have any 15" ips systems at the moment, but I do have a mint condition 15.4 T60 that I can let go really cheap.
