Are your price's inclusive of delivery? or have they simply just been missed off your post? :)

Sorry for the omission. If I only shipped domestic, then it would be easy to list one price shipped, but I feel the best and most equitable way to do it is post the price for the part and the cost to deliver it separate, and if they are combined it makes it difficult to calculate purchase price where combined shipping is concerned.

In this case, $10 will get a board shipped to 48 states, $15 will get a board with chassis and $200-300 insurance.

A "Frankenpad" is a thinkpad built by mixing parts from different models. One of the more desireable versions uses a T61 (4:3) aspect system board in an older T60 frame. This is the only way to get an IPS screen with some real computing power behind it.

The context of the word here are so the reader knows it can be used for this purpose.

Excuse my ignorance, but will the mobo have the CPU and video card attached to them?

All referenced motherboards have integrated video including the GPU, but the CPU is a separate component that you would transfer from your old board. Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like to discuss it further.

These come in two different models, the 14.1 widescreen 42w7866, which I've had several, but don't have one at the moment, and the 14.1 standard 42w7872, which I have been looking for for over a year and to date have found two. The last I offered in a system sold within an hour after posting. The reason they are so rare is threefold. The standard (non-widescreen) version was already being phased out before the Penryn chip was introduced in January 2008, the optional Penryn CPUs were almost always ordered in units with discrete graphics, and lastly, most systems that shipped with intel and penryn are still in service.

I'll let you know if I'm able to source either of these.

Hi TuuS,

I am in the market for a T61p board with FX570M graphics, from a 14.1" 4:3 model. This is for a swap into a T60p chassis with the 15" IPS screen. It doesn't need to be a Penryn board since it sounds like a Penryn CPU will still work fine in a Merom board, but it owuld be a plus. Any chance you have some known good/real ones dated 08/08 or later? Thanks!

There are no 4:3 standard made in 08/08 or later, the non widescreen models were phased out in 2007 and very few were built in 2008. I believe the last ones were made in 08/04 with the exception of some special ordered units, but I've yet to see any evidence that an 08/08 ever existed.

I do have some discrete boards that are well tested, sourced from complete corporate laptops though.

I'm just finishing up the final testing on a 14.1" 42w7650 T61p Board with FX570m graphics. The GPU sailed right through six hours of intense stress testing without as much as a fluctuation in temp, so it looks as good as it gets for one of these so I'll probably be adding it to the list soon.

Edit: This board sold immediately after testing was complete

08/08 and later 4:3 might not exist, but systems which had MB replaced for problems do have the new nvidia chip and penryn support. Mine went in for service and came back with a 2010 chip date code on it in 2011.

True, if you read above you'll see that I had one of these I briefly offered for sale, but it is now in a T60 happily running on my workbench. I'm thinking about making it my daily driver, however not all Lenovo refurbished boards get a new GPU, I have several here that have the original GPU, and these Lenovo refurb boards cost over $600 from Lenovo.

There are also many fake GPU chips coming out of China. These are sourced from scrap computers and the date codes are polished off the chip and new ones are etched on. If you do a google search for "fake chips" and "china", you'll see even the USA dept of defense was scammed into buying thousands of these fake chips. Also one of our forum members who runs a reballing service was scammed by these fake chips, it's impossible to know your getting a genuine one or a knock-off, so I'd never buy a board with a new chip unless I was sure it came from Lenovo. New GPU chips are only sold by nVidia to OEM partners like Lenovo to fulfill contracts, and are manufactured in small quantities at a loss, so there is no hope in getting reliable chips to replace failed gpus. It would be really nice if nVidia would make them for anyone, but I think they, as well as the oems hope consumers will just buy something new, so for now us frankenpadders will have to source them anyway we can.

As for me, I'll stay with the intel graphics on T61s for the time being.
