My 600E battery has finally died. I can unplug it for like five minutes before the (reported) capacity drops from 98% to 5% :(

If anyone has a battery they'd be willing to sell for a relatively inexpensive price (on ebay everything's still $40-50), please let me know! It doesn't have to be new, just something stable that works.

Or, maybe someone has a secret source that sells batteries for lower cost? I'm a starving grad student, and my 600E is even more hungry for power, so clue me in please 8)

Not cheaper, but maybe better for same $$.
IBM's website has a section called 'Clearance Corner'. 1st item listed is the $99 IBM 600 series LiIon on sale for $59.
The good thing about buying IBM gear is if there are issues, IBM will attempt to make good on the deal. Not always the case with some Flea-bay retailers.
Either way you look at, if you were to find something really cheap- remember 2 axioms of contemporary consumerism:

1. Caveat Emptor [latin for 'let the buyer beware']
&
2. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is [to good to be true].

In the long run, if you look around, you'll see almost everyone [including IBM] selling for about the same- what you really need to consider is who you're buying from and how reputable-reliable they'll be if you get a bogus product.
hope that helps.
