This FrankenPad is made up of the base and lid of a T42p (with bad motherboard), and the motherboard/PCMCIA-cage with Express slot/BT-Modem/CD-cage of a T43.
Shortly before this T42p was put in storage due to GPU failure, the UXGA LCD was replaced under warranty.
It has seen only very few hours of use, and is immaculate, no dust, no dead pixels, no scratches, no pressure points!
The SATA-PATA bridge chip on the T43 motherboard has been removed and the hard disk IDE connector has been replaced with a SATA connector.
There are no cracks or broken/missing parts anywhere.
The LCD-bezel currently has a T42p Clearplate with BT, but can be modified to T43 if so desired.
There is no shine on the palmrest/touchpad, but there is some minor shine on the Space-bar and on a few keys.
All keys are there, and are fully legible and functional.
The US-English keyboard is by everybody's favorite: NMB.
There is only minimal wear on the outside of the laptop.
On a scale from 1-10 (where 10 is best), I'd easily give it a 9.
A special BIOS (V1.29) by TTAV134 has been applied. ECP is also at the latest (V1.06).
Error 1802 has been eliminated, whitelist removed, use any wifi-card.
Error 2010 has been eliminated, use any SATA hard disk.
Slic2.1 tables have been added to the BIOS for Vista and Windows 7.
There are no passwords anywhere.
Full disclosure: when booting this SATA-modded laptop without a hard disk in the drive bay, it will give an Error 0200: hard drive error.
Put a SATA hard disk in (upside down as usual, with caddy and 4 screws), and the error is gone.
PS: I may apply the SATA-mod to some R52 motherboards with integrated Intel graphics.
These motherboards would fit in any size T4x and R5x.
They require different CPU and RAM from T40/1/2 and R50/1.
P M 750 (1.86GHz) CPUs are available. DDR2 ram is considerably cheaper than DDR RAM.
PM me if you are interested.
