Sadly the last adapter was just purchased. If I get more I'll update this post.

Update: March 2nd 2014, just got a couple more of these in, the price and domestic shipping haven't changed but International shipping rates have increased. In some cases I can honor the old rate using economy shipping, otherwise there would be a $7 increase on most destinations. International members and message me to inquire about their country.

A small correction here: The 26R9246/26R9247 ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter (having Lenovo Option Part Number 40Y8725) as offered here are intended for e.g. T/R/X/Z6x/p ThinkPad's as listed in the first link, and are not directly usable in prior ThinkPad's... owing to the wide "tab" shown in the image linked to by TuuS (this plastic tab prevent these SATA UltraBay adapters from being used in e.g. T4x/p ThinkPad's). It is possible, however, to use the 26R9246/26R9247/40Y8725 also in e.g. T4x/p ThinkPad's - by simply removing (completely cutting off!) the plastic tab on the outer connector side. This modification has been widely used by T4x/p owners to put large (500+ GB) SATA HDD's in the UltraBay and this modification in e.g discussed in the thread FS: Mint T43p 2668-H1U 15" UXGA - see in particular this post.

A small addition regarding Johan's correction:

I own a genuine 26R9246/26R9247 adapter and have been using it for years in my T43/p units with no modifications...plug & play. It seems that not all of them have the tab that Johan is referring to...

That's interesting information about the plastic tab. I wasn't aware that it prevented use in some older models. I have used these successfully in all the units I have with ultrabay slim, but I don't have a lot of older thinkpads to test them all.

Also, regarding the models T4x and the plastic tab issue that Johan mentioned.... I don't have any of these older systems to confirm it. I know several of the members who bought them own such machines, so if I can get some feedback regarding that I'd be grateful.

I'll post an update if I'm able to confirm this one way or another, in the meantime if you're looking for one for your T4x model, send me a PM, maybe you can help sort out this confusion.

I don't have any original IBM/Lenovo UltraBay SATA adapter, so i can't offer to investigate this issue. In any case, there's really no point in discussing this any further; because as already very clearly explained: If the plastic tab prevents the adapter from sliding all the way into the T4x/p UltraBay, then just carefully remove the plastic tab - end of issue!

Thanks Johan, the only part that's unclear to me is if this problem effects only the 40Y8725, or if it also effects the model I'm offering which is Fru 26r9246 Pn 26r9247.

I can confirm that the adapter I got from Tuus (FRU 26R9246/ PN 26R9247) does NOT fit in my T42 or R50p because of the tab.

I'm unable to see the images right now, but would the generic one work with an R51? And, are these sata or pata?

The R51 uses Ultrabay Enhanced, not ultrabay slim, but they will still work. Here is a quote from thinkwiki...

Ultrabay Slim
supports hot swapping; thinner (9.5 mm) than the Ultrabay 2000; cutout lower right corner of bezel; the 4x and 5x series have different battery connector from the 6x series

Ultrabay Enhanced
supports hot swapping; thicker (12.7 mm) than the Ultrabay Slim but does accept Ultrabay Slim devices

As mentioned, use of the genuine part will require removal of a small plastic tab. If you're not inclined to want to do this yourself, I can remove it for you before shipping.

These parts are designed to use an SATA harddrive, but the notebooks interface is PATA on all ultrabay enhanced and ultrabay slim models so the device is SATA, but technically your computer, even if it supports SATA in the main drive bay only supports PATA speeds in the ultrabay. This is still more then sufficient for any kind of data storage. The most popular use of these is when upgrading the primary drive to Solid State, you can add a traditional SATA drive in the ultrabay for storage of files so it's not necessary to purchase a large SSD boot drive.

The Generic device should work without modification in an R51.

I got my genuine caddy in yesterday. It worked like a charm. Definitely the best option to go on a T60 with a SSD boot drive.

Got mine yesterday, works perfectly, thanks heaps!

Received mine safely in the mail yesterday. Really well packaged so no damage and was pretty quick from the US to UK.

What can I say, the condition of the ultrabay adapter is amazing! Very clean and tidy. What a result to get the genuine article at a such a fair price. Thank you.

These were truly an amazing find from a corporate IT dept. As previously mentioned, most of these were never used, but a few look like they were used once or twice. If you hurry you can get one of the unused ones, when they are gone there won't be any more.

do you still have ultrabay adapters ?
