Just as an FYI, and not to try to be discouraging, but $250 will most likely not get you a complete and fully functioning X61T with SXGA display. Sure, you might get lucky on ebay and get one for around that price from a seller that doesn't know what they have, but for the most part that configuration sells for $325-400 from what I have seen.

Hopefully you can find what you are looking for within your budget, but you will probably have to wait a while for the right deal to come along.
I lost count...

There's an X60t with SXGA+ in your price range here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=103796

If there was an x61 non-tablet (or equivalent) with the sxga screen i would be interested in that as well. i just would really rather have the core 2 duo processor rather than the core duo.

The x61 non-tablet wasn't offered with sxga.

By the way, have you ever seen the 12" xga screens? They have better resolution then many sxga. It's not the number of pixels, it's the number of pixels per inch that adds up to quality. I have an x61 tablet with IPS flexview XGA screen and it's beautiful. Sure the sxga screen is amazing, but you're going to pay a hefty premium to get one, so you really should take a good look at an xga if possible.

Also, some of the X60 tablets did have core2, but it's not going to make much difference in performance, the core duo are actually faster. The main advantage to the X61 is the memory limits are higher.

X6x non-Tablet with SXGA+ screen conversion will cost even more than X61 Tablet with SXGA+ screen.

Regarding X60 and X61 Tablet, X60 runs cooler and consumes less power both Core Duo and Core 2 Duo models. Core 2 Duo L7400 1.5 GHz (4 MB L2) that is available on X60 Tablets is about as fast as Core Duo L2500 1.83 GHz CPU (2 MB L2) and they have the same idle temps also. I've owned both and at the moment have L7400 model.

Not interested in XGA resolution, 1024 is just not enough real estate for me. And i want a core 2 for other reasons than speed.

I definitely understand your desire for the higher resolution, wanting to fit more onto your desktop, but on a 12" screen your icons and fonts will be so small that many people find it annoying and end up either running them in lower resolution, or tweaking the settings so it's easier to read/use. I like to use mine in tablet config in my car, but I'd never use it in sxga resolution, I need it to be easy to read so I don't have to strain my eyes to read tiny fonts/icons/etc... I have both and I agree the sxga is beautiful, but as has already been mentioned, you're not likely to get your target price for one with sxga.

I've had these in core duo 1.66 and 1.83, and core2 duo 1.60 and 1.80ghz. I can't say there is a huge amount of difference in the CPUs, the core2 does support 64bit OS which is nice on the x61, not much need for it on the x60 though.

ps. I also recently added a touchscreen to my collection. Can't say I'm very impressed with the touchscreen. It is handy that you don't have to reach for the pen to use the tablet functions, but I can't say the touchscreen is worth the cost, plus it's not available in sxga.

There are some who genuinely prefer high resolution screens. Before you buy one perhaps you should go look at one. While it'll be tough to find 12" SXGA+ tablet for comparing, a 15" 1080p screen will be in the same ballpark and should give you an idea if you like the text size.

I like pixel density. i dont have a problem with things being small. i have played with my fair share of dense screens.
