If it were my machine, I'd spend the $10 to bump up to the 500GB 5400RPM drive, then pick up a mSATA SSD. It'd probably cost around $100, but offers better performance and more space, but that's me.

I already have bought a crucial 256 SSD that I will use in either machine. I put one in my x220 and love it.

I would highly recommend the NEWER EDGE (E530)machines ....same config if you like the 'processing grunt etc ....however since you mentioned that YOU NEARLY ALWAYS USE THE EXTERNAL DISPLAY - i would suggest the EDGE and or anything with HDMI port - that way you can not only connect to any 'modern' display's out there (with highest of high resolutions) but also able to VERY EASILY CONNECT to any HDTV - and get 1080p movie nights !!!
my 20agers love the setups at home (home networked also) and always the talk of town ! but then these days kids are way tooo teckie for this old fart!
juz a thought!

Thanks but I priced the E530 and it was more than the t520 and I can not get the 1600 x 900 screen. If I remember right the t520 has a display port so I can still watch movies. I have never seen a E530 but it may be a step in the wrong direction for me. Looks like a basic machine.

I am looking at a similar machine, only with the FHD screen as I never connect to an external monitor. I have been watching the prices of these the past few months and this is a low as they have been.
One thing I did learn is that starting with one of the offered configurations and then customizing it (in my case with the FHD or a larger HD) will yield a different total than starting with one of the other offered configurations.
If you haven't done so, it might be worth another "order" to see what total you get.

That is a monster deal. The only thing I might crave is a longer upgradeable warranty, but one can't always have everything.
