WTB: Working T30

#1 Post by Benoone » Sun Jun 24, 2012 12:57 pm

My T30 just took a crap and no longer boots. I've got indicator LEDs but the screen is blank and it won't POST. I have no idea what's up with it.

So, I'm looking for another fair to good T30 because I think porting the software over to a different model might prove to be a real pain (am I wrong?) and I think it's just easier to move the hard drive and continue on with my life.

I'm open to all offers but really don't want to spend alot of money as I have some T42p's to do my heavy lifting.

I'm also going to be looking at ebay but would much rather buy from the guys here. I'm USA 18109

Post here, PM me or send to okjunkie at gmail

Thanks for looking

Glenn

I have an X31 (2672-B2U) which is quite similar to the T30, except it does not have a serial port or a media drive.
Big advantage: it has USB 2.0 ports.
You can use the T30's RAM and Hard Disk as well.
You could very probably continue using the HD as is.
Worst case, you may need do an XP reinstall-in-place, without having to reinstall all your old programs.
PM me if interested, I could sell it as a barebones machine w/o RAM and HD, but with HD-cover.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Hi Glenn,

if you're still looking- I have a couple T30's in good condition for you to choose from, including one with a beautiful SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen. I can offer it to you bare-bones, so the price will be much less. You can swap the Hard Drive right over, and also the memory, optical drive and WIFI card. I will email you full details in a little while.

Yes indeed, don't go to Fleecebay. As you said, it will be much better to buy from someone on the Forum here.

Have a good day,
Daniel.

As an experiment: I'd postulate that you wouldn't have trouble moving to a more-recent machine, and I wouldn't be surprised if your T30's drive would boot if you temporarily stuck it in your T42 - at least enough to come up and download appropriate drivers for that newer architecture.

The T30 is pretty frustrating by today's standards - I have one - and even for modest computing requirements it doesn't give me much pleasure to use. It was such a wonderful little machine when I got it, but...
