LF: Full palmrest for x61 with air vents on right side!

#1 Post by dorronto » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:48 am

I have a nice x60s that tends to get a little warm above the wireless card. Not too hot but I know the x61 palmrest has the right side vent holes that helps cool the laptop.

This is the full palmrest that encircles the keyboard front to back.

Not just the small front palmrest in front of the keyboard only.

Good condition is fine with or without fingerprint.

Don't want to spend too much..

Thanks,
Ron.

Have you considered swapping out the wifi card for a half-size Intel 6200N with a half-size bracket?
Runs much cooler!

+1 - I've done this for a number of X60, X60s, X61 and X61s with the drop in heat being quite noticeable for the palmrest, especially for the X61 Intel C2D T7xxx Series. :D

EDIT: Bear in mind though that if you go down this route you'll need to consider looking at removing the hardware whilelist via a third party BIOS patch and make sure it's proven working one.

With Middleton's BIOS you'd have no problems:

If you find the "holey" one, I would be interested in the stock X60s palmrest - I've cracked mine.

Good luch with your search!

But that won't be compatible with the OP's ThinkPad, as his is an X60s.

Picky, picky...
There are other whitelist-removed BIOS versions as well, including ones for an X60/X60s

Yes, when I had my first X60s I reflashed with Zender BIOS to whitelist a half-sized Intel Wifi card. A change of drivers and reboot later and the device was functioning normally.
