Looking to buy any old IBM ThinkPad

#1 Post by JacekPlacek » Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:27 am

Hello. I'm looking for one of many thinkpads manufactured until 1994. Anyone have one for sale? I'll be very grateful for help.

Does it have to work? Seriously, something that old will be Pentium 1 or possibly MMX at best. I have an old 760LD. It turns on, and boots. then it re-boots!

Pretty sure all yours are newer than 1994 though (not sure about the 770). 600E was 1998.

From ThinkWiki:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_History

TP 770 Oct 1997

TP 760LD Feb 1996

So they are both too new.

Pre 1994, we are talking 386/486. I actually have a 350(or 360) somewhere with 386slc and I believe the first one with a buildin modem (300/1200!!!)..

I had a couple of what I believe was the first ibm notebooks, the ps2 l40sx. It had a soldered 386sx chip under the keyboard and I upgraded it with a cyrix "snap on" type upgrade. It doubled clock speed from 20 to 40 and upgraded from 386 to 486. I might even have one of those chips if anyone wants to upgrade one of these old-timers.

I also have another old system thats been stripped, a 760EL (9547 u6f). The screen looks good, but there is a large chunk misssing from the lid cover and the drives/battery, ram, covers are all missing. It may have a good motherboard and/or screen, perhaps other parts. No offer will be refused as long as it covers my costs

I wish I would have seen this sooner. I just scrapped 3 360 machines, with docking stations, and they were complete, and still booted to windows 3.1.

I didn't think they had a market. :(

A T23 would be much too new for JacekPlacek. He's looking for something built before 1994.
