That's not the correct ram for a T61, it should be pc2-5300 ddr2 667mhz. The faster ram is usually a little cheaper, and it will often work in a T61.

Unless you get a really good deal on the 800mhz chips I'd stick with the modules the unit is designed to use.

oh thanks. i got that from the crucial site 'memory upgrade checker'. you are saying the slower 5300 is better and costs more?

It is designed to run faster, but the ram speed is determined by the system board. You'll find that the pc2-6400 chips will work in many, but not all systems designed to run pc2 5300. Thinkpads seem to tolerate it well enough, but I'd say it's slightly less then 100% compatible.
