Re: Wtb: used SSD ?
Please be a little more specific: Are you looking for a PATA/IDE or a SATA SSD, and in the latter case will a SATA-I do OK, or will it have to be SATA-II pr SATA-III?
If you don't know the answer, then please let us know in what computer (a ThinkPad of some kind?) the SSD is intended.

Re: Wtb: used SSD ?
You want a 2.5" drive with SATAII or higher.
Re: Wtb: used SSD ?
I just put a Sandisk Extreme in my wife's T61 with excellent results. Her machine needed a larger drive since she keeps an extended iPod library sync'd to her machine, so I needed something that was at least 160Gb and therefore was dreading the price. It turned out that I caught a Sandisk Extreme 240Gb on the Amazon Deal of the Day for $154. That combined with the rapidly dropping prices of SSDs in general, it made for a pretty good deal.
I've seen 128Gb SSDs sell for around $100 on a regular basis. OCZ seem to be perpetually On Sale at either Fry's or Micro Center.

You are aware that SSD's have a shorter lifespan than a traditional spindle and you're hoping the prior owner was trimming their drive and running it under optimal conditions and was careful to avoid power downs from ineptly holding the button or was getting into trouble with crashes or bad drivers ????
You said it best, the declining cost makes their performance more affordable and the savings of buying a used SSD that was expensive may already be eclipsed by a contemporary and faster/cheaper SSD.
If you remain determined to buy a used SSD, consider the reputation of the seller the way you'd buy a used Rolex. Buy the dealer before you buy the timepiece, search for a reputable seller like an active member of the forums who seems to be sage since those members are often endowed with integrity and honesty and in their dealings and be prepared to pay more than bottom dollar.
