FS: 4x IBM Thinkpad G40/41 - $59-99

#1 Post by Medessec » Wed Nov 14, 2012 2:45 pm

For Sale here I've got 2 G40s, and 2 G41s. These are the sort of left-overs from my G4x toy stash, they're in fair to very good condition. Some are missing the rubber feet, but the lids on these only have a couple of scratches or two, compared to the many G-series I see with gashes or white marks all over the lids.

The G40s have Intel Extreme Graphics, and the G41s have Extreme Graphics 2. It's also worth noting 2 of these units have cracks at the hinges-they do not affect functionality and are merely a cosmetic flaw. All of these machines have the three-spindle config-a floppy drive, DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and the Hard Disk. All of these units have been loaded with Windows XP Pro SP3, and activated by use of the COA sticker on the bottom. All units will ship with an OEM power adapter.

For further info, you can use this as a reference:

"Gosse" - IBM Thinkpad G40, Type 2384-EHU
This G40 has a 40GB 7200RPM HD with the Pentium 4 2.8GHz Northwood, and 512MB of RAM. The battery holds a good charge and boot time varies from 45 seconds to a minute and a half. The screen lid has some scuffs and scratches visible in light-but there are no cracks at the hinges. This has a 15" XGA screen. The keyboard, trackpoint and palmrest has some wear, but this machine otherwise looks clean. The clickers are not spongy and still feel good to click. There is notable sticker residue on the fan duct, on the left side. Only the rubber foot on the battery is missing. It does not have a Wi-Fi card installed.

Asking $69 shipped.

"Gauss" - IBM Thinkpad G40, Type 2384-EHU
This G40 has a 40GB 7200RPM HD with the Pentium 4 2.8GHz Northwood processor, and 768MB of RAM. The battery does NOT hold a good charge. The boot time varies from 45 seconds to a minute and a half. The screen lid has some scuffs, but looks very clean and in good shape aside from a long scratch, and small cracks at the hinges. This has a 15" XGA screen. The keyboard, trackpoint and palmrest show some wear. The clickers feel good to click though, and the machine is otherwise fairly tidy. All the rubber feet are missing except for the one on the battery. It does not have a Wi-Fi card installed.

Asking $59 shipped.

"Lynx" - IBM Thinkpad G41, Type 2886-5TU SOLD
This G41 has a 60GB 4200RPM HD, with the Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Prescott processor with Hyper-Threading(two logical processors), and 1GB of RAM. The battery holds a very good charge. The boot time is usually consistently quick, under a minute. The bottom is notably very clean with few scuffs and scratches, except on the battery and some wear around the edges. The lid is in decent shape, but has a couple of dark marks, however there are no cracks at the hinges. It's also scuffed up a lot on one corner, the left one closest to you with the lid closed. The keyboard and trackpoint show wear, but the palmrest shows little wear and the keyboard bezel is otherwise pristine aside from one small scratch. The stickers are still there as well, the Pentium 4 sticker is slightly worn. This machine has the 14.1" XGA screen. None of the rubber feet are missing. This laptop also has the built-in Wi-Fi equipped.

Asking $99 shipped. SOLD

"Stoker" - IBM Thinkpad G41, Type 2886-5TU
This G41 has a 60GB 4200RPM HD, with the Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Prescott processor with Hyper-Threading(two logical processors), and 1GB of RAM. The battery holds a very good charge. The boot time is usually consistently quick, under a minute. The bottom has some scuffs, but otherwise looks fairly clean. The lid is in fair condition, with some scratches, wear marks, and a couple of chips. There's also small cracks at the hinges. The keyboard and trackpoint show some wear, but significantly less than the other G-series laptops here. The palmrest shows very little wear, and the rest of the keyboard bezel looks almost pristine. The stickers are still there, although the Pentium 4 sticker has been polished into a mirror. None of the rubber feet are missing. This laptop has the 15" XGA screen, and has built-in Wi-Fi.

Asking $99 shipped.

These machines would be great for anyone looking to see what the G-series laptops are like, or maybe add one to their collection. Also note all these machines have the more powerful Pentium 4 processors, and not the lower-end Celeron processors. These machines boot reliably and are great cheap machines, and although the G40s do not have Wi-Fi, they do have Ethernet ports.

I am open to offers, but please consider I am incorporating shipping into the current prices. Although I do know these machines are not worth much, I have taken the time to dust them out, reinstall the OS, and configure them to work properly for extended periods of time. If you have any questions about a certain machine, you can post your question here, but if you're interested in buying, shoot me a PM. When asking about a certain machine, use the codename listed, as that way I know which one to fetch right off the bat.

I may also post pics soon... stay tuned.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...
