I've got an X41 I'll sell pretty cheap. As in < $100 shipped Everything works, good shape, has Linux on it now but has a valid COA for XP. Never use it anymore. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: anyone want to sell me a refurbished thinkpad x40?
thank you for the offers. I will think about the x41 and it is cool that it has the tablet...
Are the x41 and the x41t the same thing? are dwilsonfl and RealBlackStuff selling the same model or is the x41 different from the x41t?
I kind of had my heart set on the x40 because it is the lightest and can stay powered on longer because it uses less voltage.
the prices on that first website I listed are kind of high for an older laptop imo
I will probably go with some x40 that has the ram maxed out like this bad boy

The X41 is a regular laptop.
The X41t (a.k.a. X41 Tablet) has a screen that can rotate 180 degrees and be used as a tablet for e.g. taking notes, using a stylus.

Yep. I've had all three of these - x40, x41, x41 tablet. You are apparently wanting the lower powered but better battery life models. 1.2 cpu is the stingiest I think.

Unless I'm mistaken, the LCD on that eBay auction has a reddish tint, meaning it'll need a new CCFL (or screen) sooner, rather than later.

Re: anyone want to sell me a refurbished thinkpad x40?
RealBlackStuff thanks for that info .. about how much does that repair cost?
How good is the tablet on the x41t? Is it worthy of replacing a quality wacom tablet say that an artist would use in photoshop?
I'm kind of leaning toward the tablet because it would be cool to have that functionality even though I'm not sure how often I'd use it.
I wish it was easier to find this x40 in nice condition. It seems a lot of them are just trashed now a days
I'm wondering how quality the refurbished x40's are from http://www.thinkpaddepot.com/C-24-x40.aspx
http://www.thinkpaddepot.com/Product/63 ... emory.aspx
certainly he didn't put new screens in them? What was done to these to actually refurbish them? Nothing or have they just been tested?
It seems like they are quite high priced compared to buying say two x40's off of ebay and swapping the good parts into one and having the second x40 as a junker.
Any thoughts concerns ? At first I was just looking at this to have as a machine to learn openbsd on and i wanted something with a nice keyboard lightweight etc. This is why I decided on the x40. Might there be another laptop? From my research the x40 is the lightest. What thinkpad has the best keyboard out of curiosity?

"Refurbished" is one of the most abused terms in the electronics industry. There is no actual definition for it, so it means whatever the seller decides.lightweightthinkpad wrote:

An absolutely ridiculous price theirs is, for that X40. That amount of money will yield a X61/s nowadays...

Re: anyone want to sell me a refurbished thinkpad x40?
I own a couple of X40 ThinkPads that I continue to use for just the reasons you have already stated. They are so light weight and slim that I don't mind carrying one of them in my brief bag.
X60 or X61 machines are tempting, and better for several reasons, but they are more bulky, so I've just kept using the X40.
In my opinion nothing has quite equalled the keyboard on the 600 series machines. But, those are so old as to be out of the question for what you're looking for. I don't feel much dif between keyboards on most of the X series machines, but my experience is with X22, X31, X40 and X60 models only, nothing newer.
I might be willing to part with one of my X40...PM for details.

Re: anyone want to sell me a refurbished thinkpad x40?
PM sent Neil.
I'm tempted to check out the keyboard on the 600 but it weighs 5 lbs so it is a little too heavy for me. I'm very interested in their keyboard construction, and after reading about the 600 series someone mentioned that the palm rests don't get hot at all which is nice.
The x40 doesn't have warm palm rests does it?

Re: anyone want to sell me a refurbished thinkpad x40?
No, I've never noticed warm palm rests on the X40. The only things under there are the HDD on the left, and the PCMCIA slot on the right. It's the X60 that has the hot palm rest because of the wifi adapter right under it. The X40 wifi adapter is higher up, under the keyboard.
