Welcome to the forum!
I have a T42p of exactly this type/model, which I (back then, when I purchased it) had the IBM-warranty extended on as long as possible, which is/was five years from the date of delivery. This extended warranty, on my T42p, has however expired
years ago, so I therefore I wonder:
1) If your T42p was serviced by the mentioned IBM Thinkpad depot technician
under the original IBM warranty, and
2)
When this service and upgrade actually took place?
Additional questions:
3) Has this T42p been used at all since the mentioned upgardes/part replacements took place?
4) Have you verified that the LCD is in perfect condition... no dead or stuck pixels, no "dust specs", no greying near the corners/edges (sign of a more-or-less worn CCFL)?
5) What type of battery comes with this T42p (6-cell or 9-cell?), and brand (e.g. Sanoy or Panasonic etc.) and what is the specific battery condition?
6) Is the cosmetic MINT in all respects (keyboard, palm rest, lid, bottom etc.)... with absolutely zero scuffs, marks, scratches or signs of use??

There is no such thing as a 70 GB Seagate 2.5" PATA HDD; please correct your listing.
Good luck with the sale.
PS: Since it is a bit unusual that new members burst out with offering (rather expensive!) items in their very first post, you may want to provide potential buyers with some sort of credibility with respect to your past as a seller... such as feedback on eBay,
HeatWare or whatever.

And to be honest, many of the members here are much better on ThinkPads than IBM serviceman, actually we have read some really funny posts about experiences with IBM/Lenovo technicians.

One of my T42's were serviced by IBM three times before they gave up. The computer sat on a shelf for years before I got it. Swapped out the ram and it booted right up. It still boggles my mind that whoever serviced it didn't find such an pathetically simple issue. Now add the fact that they ordered the wrong parts for my X201 like three or four times, I don't have much faith in their skills.
Yeah, the no questions asked, we'll fix it thing is great. But the saying, "The right hand doesn't know what the left hand does." applies here.

If an IBM servicer(?) put in the new fan, the protective foil underneath the fan is most likely still there...

Hey Thanks Johan for pointing those out. Just home from traveling and didn't realize the typos posted from my mobile. The unit hasn't been used heavily since I have a new machine, primarily to run Pandora on my sound system when home. The price is "Or Best Offer" as you are obviously not familiar with that acronym. The updates and repairs were paid for, not part of an "extended warranty" and if anything wasn't right it would have went back to be corrected. I haven't had to return the machine to the tech for any items he worked on, nor have any of my friends. Any changes or updates done to my machine I have listed apart from the original specs. I have been extremely satisfied with the local repair facility here and have sent numerous friends there for issues with their machine as well. I guess I am lucky to have such a great servicer close to my home.
If you care to make an offer or have further questions let me know. I have used this site more reference for some time as I am on my 4th ThinkPad. I didn't realize some members were so sensitive here, especially to new members. Thanks again.

I don't see "OBO" or "Or Best Offer" anywhere in the original post. Even when those words are used, the price that comes before it shouldn't be ridiculous. That machine is excellent, no doubt about that, but it will not sell anywhere near the asking price. If you are willing to take a lot less than that, lower the price so you don't scare people away from it. Few are going to have the guts to offer $150 when the asking price is $400 more than that.
Pictures would be nice too.

We are all aware of what OBO means.
Where you placed it in your post was unusual, to say it nicely.
And we are not sensitive to new members here, just sensitive to prices that bear no resemblance to reality.
Guess you failed to do proper research even though you claim to "have used this site more [for?] reference for some time".

I see the "OBO" now -- my apologies, I scanned the post multiple times and didn't see it earlier, most likely due to not having coffee yet...anyway, the rest of my post stands. I hope you can get as much as possible for it, just don't be disappointed when you don't get what you expect.

I thought the admins of this forum had decided several years ago to strictly forbid open discussions of asking prices (partly as a result of the nasty discussion that one of my for-sale ads triggered). After the OP hasn't received any interest for a week or so, s/he will realize the asking price is too high and will gradually lower it. I think we should let newbies learn this way, instead of discussing prices openly.

In principle, I agree with pianowizard: price discussions should be left out of the open forum, and saved for PMs....with that being said, I have a couple of suggestions for OP:
a) If I were attempting to sell a machine like one that you're describing, there would be a link in the post leading to photobucket (or whatever free service you prefer for image hosting) where there would be 50 or so huge pictures of all areas of the laptop in question from every and any angle imaginable.
b) Any and all work that was done - be it under warranty or later on in the game - should be documented with dated receipts etc. Posting shots of these would help your mission as well IMO.
c) You've got to understand that many TPF members are folks who are able to do work themselves and are not in the least impressed by Flextronics (aka IBM service depot) technicians. I could name at least seven members - off the top of my head - who could rip apart and put back together a T4x unit blindfolded.
d) Most of us who know these machines well would highly question the existence of new UXGA LCD panels as well as planars for the T42p units so yes, some form of tangible proof would be rather necessary...especially when the asking price is between 4-6 times higher than what these units bring on average...
Good luck with the sale.
