The R series are sometimes the forgotten ThinkPad. I was skeptical too until I tried one. Very similar to a T400. Slightly thicker. For example the R400 takes a 12.7mm optical drive known as Serial Ultrabay Enhanced. The T400 takes the slimmer 9.5mm known as the Serial Ultrabay Slim.

The really good part is this warranty below which expires on 2013-11-09. So you have a bumper to bumper warranty for another 9 months.
