Hello

I'm working on transplanting a t61p motherboard into a t61. I'm looking for the parts listed in the title. And I may need a heatsink if the regular t61 heatsink isn't compatible.

Also what CPU would be best for the t61p? I was looking at either the T9400 or the T9500.

Thanks for the help!!

You need a T9300 or T9500, T9400 will not work.

Replied to your PM. I think the T9300 would be the best. There is no major difference in the spec's.

If anyone has a T9300 to sell I'm interested :)

If your T61 had discrete graphics, then you can use the heatsink, otherwise you'll need a heatsink too.

also, if your T61p board is a 42w7650 it won't run these chips unless you use a modified bios to suppress the fact that your board doesn't support the penryn cpu digital temp sensor. If your board is a 42w7874 or 44c3926, then you're good to go.

I have a 44c3926 ready to go in. The T9400 would be good then?(I have one in a broken T400) As far as the heatsink Would this work? New OEM Fan w/ Heatsink IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T61 T61P 42W2820

T9400 won't work, I've tried. The FSB is higher in the T9400 than T9300 and T9500 (800 MHZ).

The only penryn chips supported on a t61/T61p with a penryn capable board are T8100, T8300, T9300 and T9500. The other models listed are for a different FSB speed and won't work.

I do have an X9000 penryn running on one of these boards but it's not a supported chip so use it at your own risk and monitor your temperatures when you use it. I also wouldn't recommend it because they are expensive and frankly just don't make that much difference. I have two frankenpads, one with T9300 and one with X9000, the price difference of the chips was over $200 and I can barely tell the difference in routine use.

Also regarding your 44c3926, be very careful of heat because none of the 4:3 systems shipped with the updated gpu chip so you may fry the board if you're not careful.

Yes, that part is the correct HSF

Happy frankenpadding, and if you need any more parts to complete your conversion let me know, I have everything needed.
