I just bought a stripped X61 from EBay and now I need some parts.
Please let me know if you have 8GB RAM (2 x 4GB) that works with this Thinkpad.

Hi, the correct type of memory for a X61 is PC2-5300 667MHz SODIMM. I can tell you that PC2-6400 800MHz pieces work fine in a T61, so they'd likely work fine in a X61 as well and seem to be easier to find in 4GB modules... good luck with your search!

Crucial still sells them

Lots of 4 GB DDR2 SODIMM RAM modules are still available. Pricing sucks, especially compared to DDR3.

I think it's fairly unlikely that anyone on the forum is going to be wanting to offload a pair of DDR2 4GB sticks anytime soon...
As enosdan mentions, Crucial still makes a kit -- part number is CT2KIT51264AC667 ... plug that into that website which is kind of like "fresh chicken ovum", dot C eh. They have it.

Forum member synchromesh just sold a pair for just over $100 a couple three weeks ago. A very fair price compared to ovum and elseware.

This works very well:

I've bought 5 sets. One was bad, immediately replaced.
It used to be $98.

It's the $45.99 shipping that really hurts, if you live north of the border.

I tried their ram before, it worked but gave much lower benchmark scores then my Patriot brand memory. I suspect it was made with substandard chips, but it could have just been a bad batch, however at the time they were only $10 cheaper than the patriot which is backed by a lifetime warranty from a major manufacturer, not some company that has their true identity hidden behind ebay's privacy policy.
If you're asking for votes here, i'd say spend a few extra $ and get some major brand chips, but YMMV
ps. I've also tried Komputerbay memory with similar results

+ 1.
Given that the price of larger DDR2 DIMMs has been going up, what seems pricey today may very well be a bargain a week or two from now.

DDR2 RAM is just painful for the wallet. The cost of 2x4 GB of DDR2 is probably more than the X61 you got off of EBay. For the price difference between DDR2 and DDR3, I'd seriously consider taking the difference and putting it towards an upgrade. That's what I've done, 2x2GB for all Thinkpads requiring DDR2 and 2x4 GB for my T400, T500 and X201. Mind you I don't need 8 GB in any of my laptops as all my RAM and CPU intensive computing is done on my desktops.
Since you already have a X200s and X201.... But if you want to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading, I can perfectly relate to that also.

Prices have been rather ridiculously high so I bought it from Taobao China. Much cheaper.

Putting DDR2 in an X61 is justifiable to me because of "optical ergonometrics." The X61 has a unique form factor, in which the screen tightly occupies the entire lid area. In no other sub-notebook does the screen occupy the entire lid. Even though subsequent Lenovo sub-notebooks have higher screen resolution, they do not serve my eyes as well. And the X61 is a few ounces lighter than the later X series.

To all the above: Thanks for guiding me with your comments and advice.
As you blokes note, the 4GB SODIMMs are expensive. I found a pair of 2GB SODIMMs of Kingston DDR2 on the Bay of E. The price was unbeatable after the Bay of E "bucks" discount.
The X61 is a very nice Thinkpad. Now I see why other people like them so much. It's disappointing that Lenovo has now abandoned the fine ergonomics of this model.
Now I need to find a high-capacity battery!

Yeah 2x2GB is much more reasonable and serves the purpose of 90% of people out there. Having said that I do have a few machines with 2x4GB for no other purpose than just because I can. I really like the X61, in both vanilla and tablet flavours.

I have some 4 gigs DDR2. I'm in need of a battery & keyboard for x200, do you have to trade?
