Sold All available Race500 Frankenpads

I still have one R500 in excellent condition and would be willing to sell it in original configuration or build another Race500 if I can find another source for these cpu chips.

This is one smoking fast R series, based on a gently used R500, an otherwise ordinary laptop but with the Fastest Penryn CPU you can put in one of these laptops, running at 3.067ghz with 6mb of L2cache. This is an Intel core2 duo (penryn) cpu originally use in Intel iMac computer, essentially similar to the T9900.

This Gently used thinkpad started life as a R500 model 2718-W1M. It's been gently used and shows very little wear. It does have some minor scuffs on the outer case from shipping and only the slightest wear on the keyboard. I selected one of the best from a lot of nearly 100 laptops.

In the case of this Frankenpad R stands for Racing because this is build like a Racecar, all power!!! no frills!!!

This beast is too big to (safely) ship in a medium FRB so I'll set the shipping at a flat $20 coast to coast, International buyers ask for a quote.

Hi TuuS, was the CPU upgrade just a simple drop in replacement or did you need to under-volt the CPU to get it running without any overheating issues? Just curious, as I've not heard of that CPU being used before - good luck with the sale, hope you get something sorted out. Cheers

Scottyboy, The R500 handles the CPU quite nicely and I haven't had to do any undervolting. It's been running for a few days next to me and is currently at 46c degrees. It seems to behave very much like a T500 with factory equipped T9900 that I own. This also has the advantage of some well applied Arctic Silver 5 to help.

This started out as an experiment and it couldn't have possibly gone any better so I'm proud to share it and I may build more if there is interest.
