Laptop model is 7658-CTR, battery is shot, genuine Lenovo replacement if possible, any capacity would be fine.

If that's the wide-screen model (I suspect it is), I bought 3x brand new (Lenovo) on eBay for $25 each .. but they were the wrong ones for my T60. I'll sell one to you for $25 + $7 (shipping + PayPal fees). The batteries I bought were P/N 41U3197 in an official Lenovo PC Options box. The P/N on the battery inside is 42T5230 (it's the same battery w the Lenovo label). The link to the eBay auction is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231063345728. The seller said 7-cell but they are really 6-cell. I'm keeping one for my T400 (which I'll sell soon) .. I was going to return the other two.

Let me know if you're interested -- Bob

Bob, that is a 14" widescreen model and if those batteries are genuine, it's a great deal. I can get genuine originals ranging from good, to unissued NOS with the better panasonic cells, but I cannot get them for that price.

TuuS:
I rechecked Lenovo's site. I was wrong - These are 7-cell as the box says. Let me do more research.

Okie-dokey. TuuS alerted me that these might be knock-offs. I had not actually booted the system with the one I bought to look at power-manager.

After doing so, I'm very inclined to agree with TuuS for these reasons:
1: The battery itself is labeled a 42T5230 (outside label) and 42T5229 in PowerManager
2: Power-manager reports it can't be charged. It was cycling between charging and 'Poor' condition, but now has settled down to have 'A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace'.

I guess if you can make everything in China (it all says "Made in China"), you can take old dead batteries and resell them cheap(er).

THANKS FOR THE ALERT, TuuS. Got a good education ..

Bob

Glad I was able to help. When I saw what looked like a genuine lenovo box that listed model T60/R60 but a battery that won't fit those models, I knew something was wrong. You'd think someone going to all that trouble to fake a box would at least get the label right. Don't feel bad though, I've been had by fake batteries on ebay too. Generic batteries are risky enough because you never know of the quality and safety circuits are upto par, but if someone is going to fake a lenovo logo, they will certainly fake the UL listing and RoHS certifications too. They can't really take their fake counterfeit batteries and submit them for certification lol

To O.P., if you want a genuine used, or unissued NOS battery send me a PM and I'll check what is available.

Thanks everyone, after researching more, I went ahead and just ordered the basic 4 cell genuine article from Lenovo (p/n 41U3196)

It should be fine for its intended purpose which is 75% of the time attached to a desk using a/c power.
