Price Check: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds [UK]
Price Check: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds [UK]
Hello!
Can anybody help to value a ThinkPad W700ds? The item is located in the UK and is a UK model with the corresponding keyboard layout and charger.
The overall condition is good but not 'mint'. There is one minor area of 'damage' to one of the grill pillars and has the usual marks to the rubberised texture on the lid, as we've all come to expect with ThinkPads. Don't get me wrong, though, this machine has *not* had a hard life - I'll supply photographs if any interest is shown or they are needed for a valuation.
The specification includes Intel Core2 Extreme QX9300, NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M, twin display (17" 1920x1200 and 10.6" 768x1280), 4GB RAM, dual disk (RAID) 160 GB, WACOM digitiser (pen included), Huey PRO colorimeter and the usual express card/bluetooth/etc.
I have (genuine) Lenovo reinstallation media for this in Windows XP 64 bit, Windows Vista and Windows 7 flavours. All media would be included but the laptop would be wiped and prepared with a Windows Vista installation to match the COA on the laptop. I only ordered the other OS to make life simple if I ever wanted to change - But no license is included for XP or 7 - This would be an exercise for any future buyer.
The item is not boxed but I would include a carry bag (hard to find one that comfortably fits this size machine without wheels!) and a lap tray.
I have owned the machine for the best part of a year and a half but got hardly any use out of it - I'd originally wanted a small, high resolution ThinkPad but when I saw the W700ds I fell in love and picked it up. Sadly, though, it does not get enough use and it is such a shame to leave this sat in it's case, so I've come around to the idea of selling it.
This thread is only a feeler to gauge what the item is worth. If it turns out there is no interest or the valuation is too low then I'll probably keep it - I'd imagine a dual screen laptop will be quite the novelty/rarity in years to come! - but I'm certainly in a open mind to sell...
So, could somebody help with what they think this would be worth? Thank you!

This seems to be a valid comparable. September 4, 2013 close on eBay at $800 after spirited bidding:

But this one sold for quite a bit more:

I remember one selling in the UK just recently as well, so here it is:

It doesn't seem to me that it actually sold...take a look here:hwattys wrote: But this one sold for quite a bit more:

Which would make perfect sense since $1800 is a W701DS territory and then some...
To OP...over here, you'd likely walk away with a $1000. In the merry old England, I'm going to presume a bit more...

Re: Price Check: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds [UK]
Thank you for the reply - Looks like it will be worth my while selling up. I'll try and get a more formal for sale thread together soon. In the meantime, feel free to make contact you're interested...
Cheers all.
Cheers all.
Re: Price Check: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds [UK]
I never did get around to listing this/selling it. Other than the occasional boot to do Windows Updates this unit is still working fine. Can you recommend the best place to go about selling it? I appreciate it's a pretty niche machine. It does not help, further, that I'd rather do a face-to-face sale to avoid any of the usual eBay/PayPal scams (I've taken to avoding eBay generally as a result).
Thanks.
Thanks.

Put it up in our Marketplace Forum, incl. some (links to) pictures and your asking price.
State your preference for making contact with buyers.
Best of Irish with the sale.

The Marketplace in the German Thinkpad forum is very active:
https://thinkpad-forum.de/forums/16-Bie ... beh%C3%B6r
But you need to have 15 posts there before you can sell.
