WTB: Various T61p 14.1 Standard Parts

Hello,

I am looking for the following parts to complete my 14" T61p project.

T9300 CPU FOUND

14" Discrete CPU cooler 42W2820 FOUND


14.1" FX570m SYS Board 42W7874 or 44C3926 ......A Long shot but I thought I'd put it here


If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

I have the heatsinks, don't currently have a T9300 but get them sometimes. Currently available penryn chips: T9500, T8300, T8100. If you want a chip that's pulled from a complete corporate laptop after extensive testing and has never been overclocked or abused, these would be ideal. As for the system boards, the 42w7874 is also available as 44c3926, but I'll warn you that none of these laptops were manufactured with the updated gpu chip and many being sold online have reflowed gpu chips. I only source them from laptops that I know where they've been and haven't been tampered with, so be very careful because there is no shortage of people who will bake a board and sell it... hoping it lasts long enough that you can't dispute it, but even if you get a good one there is no assurance it won't fail. This is a risk you have to accept with these. I haven't had any since the summer, but I do have some well tested boards with nvs140m and an NOS board with a 2010 gpu. The 42w7650 won't run a T9300, you can force the pairing by using the middleton bios. These boards are far more common.

You'll have no problem finding a good Penryn CPU. The T9300 is probably best for your money... and you'll be better off in terms of cooling.

Heh... long shot is an understatement. I've played with my share of T61s and I can tell you: the FX 570M runs HOT. As TuuS said, most of the FX 570M boards you'll see just have a sketchy history, either being sold at the slightest hint of pre-failure, have other (for now) working chips, or have cheaply soldered or reballed FX 570 chips on them, good(post 08/08) or not.

The NVS 140M runs cooler, but I've had the pleasure of gaming on an FX 570M, and I can tell you for a fact, it's probably nicer than the W500's FireGL V5700 if you really push it. The NVS 140M is a sharp compromise, but people go for it because it's still dedicated and therefore far superior to the GMA X3100. Plus, because of the far less violent thermal cycling, pre-08/08 NVS 140M boards(especially the good ones) have a whole lot more life in them. But in buying online, anything still goes, just like with the FX 570M.

As for the board, even if you're planning to just use the 14" T61 chassis... I recommend that if you want NVIDIA graphics, and you want a board now, you should get one of TuuS' NOS boards. It may be a bit pricier than cannibalizing a still working T61, or getting an odd Merom FX 570M board that happens to work, but it's a decision you wont regret. There really is nothing more fantastic than the security that your 4:3 T61 motherboard is exempt from the NVIDIA terror.

Some good points midessec. I know the T9300 chips are available online, but I only source them from corporate laptops after extensive testing and there are far to many high-end chips being dumped by people who overclock the hell out of them (for sport), then dump them before they completely die. I used to get an ample supply from 08/08 systems when sourcing system boards, but the supply is drying up. I agree about the nvs140m, they can also be overclocked as much as 70% by multiple accounts and even the originals have a much lower failure rate than the fx570. I do get the fx570m boards from time to time, but only after a 7day extensive burn-in test while temps are monitored, if there is any abnormal temp fluctuations the laptops are rejected, but even in these cases I sell the boards with a warning. I've sold few of these boards/laptops that I can count them on my fingers and so far I don't believe any have failed, but I've seen a great number that looked like they were about to fail and I'm sure some poor soul ended up buying them after they were auctioned to brokers and then on to resellers. Unlike the widescreen models the 4:3 weren't produced in 08/08 with these graphic chips, for the most part the last date you'll find is 08/04, but I have seen later dates on special order units. I have one 08/07 in my personal collection that I got from the original owner who had it special ordered, I'm sure he had to twist some arms at lenovo, but they have been known to build units post-production in cases where corporate customers have leased equipment that cannot be repaired. I have an Intel widescreen unit that was manufactured well into 2009, many months after the series was concluded. It's an oddity for sure.

My GPU just crapped out yesterday. If I can't get it running, I'll just part it out. Feel free to PM me an offer on its T9300. It was a corporate pull originally and runs as cool as a cucumber.
