Hi,

I'm in the market for an upgrade, finally after 4.5 years (currently using an X200 with the AFFS upgrade).
What I need from the machine:

i5/i7 full-fledged processor
2x8GB RAM configuration
500GB 7200RPM drive
128GB mSATA SSD
IPS (of course)
Intel dual-band wireless
Will not be needing the backlit option (going to replace with X220 keyboard)
Is there an option with no trackpad?

Primarily looking at somewhere along less than US$1k

THanks.

Due to mapping in the BIOS, this will work, but a lot of the keys will not function properly. If you want the old keyboard, you should probably look at the X220. There's little practical difference between Sandy and Ivy Bridge.

I second this with passion. :)

Just make sure to get the X220 with the i7 CPU, as those are the only ones that have USB3.0. X230 and later have them on all models.

I know about this and I'm willing to take a hit on the Fn keys. I don't really use much of it so it's fine - for me I guess. Can't say so for the other diehard fans.

The X220 with an i7 is EXTREMELY hard to come by, but I'm willing to go with the X230 just for the HD4000 alone.

Any offers anyone?

Hey Norm, thanks for that.

I think it'd help if I post a list of what I really want for my X230:

Preferred configuration | Acceptable
i5-33X0M | i7
Premium HD/IPS | TN (preferably in 3x3 or w/o warranty then)
2x8GB/1x8GB | 2x4GB
No HDD | 500GB/750GB 7200RPM
Intel 6300-N | 6205-N
No Webcam | Webcam
Ultrabase | No Dock

...and so on as ultimately I think I will be purchasing components for my machine alone at that point. (extra RAM, mSATA, additional HDD, IPS panel if comes with TN panel and machine does not have any warranty but is functioning fine)
