Just looking for something cheap to dabble in OSX and Linux.

Would like to keep my project under 150 for a first model Macbook and under $80 for a Powerbook (not really wanting the TI models)

It would be much better to get a MacBook than a PowerBook, because the latest OS version that can be installed on the latter is only 10.5, for which support was discontinued in 2009. In general I know next to nothing about Macs but I recently bought the last model of the 15-inch PowerBook G4 and that's how I learned about being stuck at 10.5. This is okay for me though, since I use this laptop only for playing MP3 files (the speakers are great!) and will never get online with it.

Have you considered building a hackintosh? I think some Dell Latitudes work well. (I have a D630 with Nvidia that is suposed to even work with Maveric.) The strange thing about the latitude is that spec wise, it is almost identical to an Nvidia T61.

A Macbook for $150 is going to be a tough order to fulfill. Even the original Core Duos are worth a bit more than that and most of them are beat to pieces by now. If you lived in California, the land of cheap Apple laptops, it would've been a possibility. But any other places are unlikely to yield something this cheap in decent working condition.

You can take a look at G4 Mac Minis. Those might be attainable in your price range. Just make sure you have screen, mouse and keyboard to attach.

I have an old, white G4 PowerPC that's in decent shape -- and yes, I'm based in CA. :-)

It's got a 40gb HDD, I think, and it's maxed out at 1.5 gb RAM. It's currently running a fork of Linux Mint, specifically made for PowerPC's. PM me if you're interested in buying or trading.
