Hi,

I need a very good condition T61 14.1" laptop for work. I run very processor heavy configuration software for industrial machinery and use the ultrabay serial/parallel adapter in my current machine every day. The machine needs to have a good processor (prefer t9500) fingerprint reader and bluetooth with the HD+ screen. EVERY port needs to work, meaning, the LAN has to work, the wireless has to work and all the USB ports have to work. I plan to transfer my serial/parallel adapter to the new machine and go.

Does it have to be a T61 or can it be a T60? I have a 2GHz T60 I am going to list soon.

I think you may be betting on the wrong horse.
AFAIK, after the T60/T61, no other Thinkpad has the option to use a serial/parallel adapter in the Ultrabay.
You do NOT want a T61 with nVidia graphics, unless you know its complete background!
If Ser/Par is what you need, Lenovo only offers docks in whatever shape after T6x.
Check out the competition (Panasonic Toughbooks come to mind).

As an engineer, I am required to travel to far away developing countries to set up multi-million dollar installations. I have a toughbook, it sucks. It is too thick and heavy and dim. I also have 6 other thinkpads for other uses, including the best t430 that money can buy with every available option. When I am required to set up industrial equipment and I am not certain that it will respond to USB rs232 commands, my number one choice is my 14.1" T61 with the serial/parallel adapter. It is lighter and more portable than a toughbook and has been my companion in India where I had to defend myself against would be robbers by slamming my t61 into a motorcycle riders helmet and knocking him off his bike. After that incident, the internal LAN quit working and the trackpad sometimes refuses to intialize.

I will continue using the T61, thank you.

Out of sheer curiosity: what ToughBook is that? The ones made over the past several years have LED panels which are exceptionally bright...

Take it from someone who sports a CF-31 with a 1100-nit LCD...and has owned more T61s than he would dare count, none of which was graced with a LCD of a stunning brightness...

Let me guess: a defective Toughbook!

Check with forum member TuuS, he has NOS (new-old-stock) 14.1" 4:3 T61 motherboards with nVidia NVS140M graphics.
These were produced in 2010 and have the latest, fixed version GPU, that no longer conks out.
And new 14.1" SXGA+ screens can also still be bought (preferably from LG Philips.
Add a T9300/T9500 if required, although T8100/T8300 are very powerful as well.
Add 8GB RAM and an SSD. That way you can update your T61 machine to almost 'new' status.
Apply Middleton's BIOS and you'll even have SATA II speed for the HD/SSD.
