Hello everyone!
I just became a member of this forum, even though read almost all posts here during several years.
Reason I post now is that I started collecting classic Thinkpads and can not find 700c. I already have Thinkpad 700 (monochrome), IBM PC110, 701c and couple dozen others (R, T, X, W Series).
Please, if anyone has one (
Thinkpad 700c), contact me, I am interested. Preferably in good working conditions, but all offers are welcome. My Ebay ID is Khipata20, in case you want to contact me there.
Thanks in advance and love this forum since 2003
I live in USA

Would you know how a 700C looks like compared to a 700?
I know some sellers don't list the actual model, but rather the machine type.
9552 pops up for the 700/C models, 9552-30B comes up on the PDF of the
700's HMM
So maybe if someone is selling a '9552' ThinkPad, maybe ask them what the other 3 characters are.
I cant seem to find any on eBay...
I know there are a few very old ThinkPads that spring up on there without a description.
Happy hunting, I am looking for a 500/510 model myself, just because it looks soo cool.

I had a 700C in about 1992 or 1993 or 1994 and I must say it was the slowest thinkpad I ever had..
hair pulling, teeth gnashingly S L O W even with the blue streak or whatever cpu upgrade which I made..
running DOS..
BIG box, PCMCIA size memory cards (max 2 8meg cards I think or was it 8K

)..
if you find one i'm sure you'll enjoy it as a real antique and a good example of what those few of us who grappled with early computing had to deal with..
ARPANET, fido net, 300 baud acoustic couplers.. it was prehistoric..
OH!, say, I have some other antique thinkpads, like a 755CDV and S30 and an 850 power PC for something really rare and and and..

Thanks guys for your replies!
Thinkpad 700c looks like and IS exactly the same as 700, ONLY difference is TFT color LCD. I have one monochrome 700 and It is Type 9552-301. Running Windows 95B on it. I am not sure about the type of 700c though as I never had one.
When and if I will get my hands on one, I'll definitely let you know and post pictures here on the forum.
Personal thanks to Bill Morrow for such an excellent job on this forum, which I follow since 2003 I think and finally decided to collect thinkpads and join here

Here is what I have currently:
TP 500 (my everyday workhorse, posting from it right now), 2 of them.
IBM PC110, TP 700, TP 701c (2 of them, one with brand new motherboard and battery), TP W520 (Quadro 2000M, 32GB RAM, FHD IPS LCD, 24GB SLC mSata SSD, 180GB Intel 520 SSD, 750 GB Seagate XT Hybrid HDD in Ultrabay), TP A20, TP A21, TP X40, TP X61s, TP X61t, TP T42, TP T60, TP T61 (4 of them), TP R50, TP R51, TP R61, TP T400, and couple Ideapads.
Not thinkpads, but interesting antiques: Atari Portfolio (2), Poqet PC Classic (2), HP LX 95, HP LX 100, HP LX 200 (2), Toshiba Libretto 50CT, TRS-80 Laptop, TRS-80 Pocket, Sharp PC-1500 and some other laptops (Alienware 11M, Mitac Getac V100, Sager NP901, Dell Precision M90 and others).
Thanks again for this great website which is as informative as fun and GREAT source of info about these EXCELLENT machines, best website on the planet I think!

yes, now I recall that one..
never had one of those..
have stories of the "old" h/p but those days and that h/p are long gone..
I have two h/p calculators..
a programmer (should dig it out and verify the batteries) and a business consultant II 19B which I have had and used for about 25 years or more..
I used to attend the employee sales at what is now "old corporate" at 1501 (I think) page mill road in palo alto.. one could get some nice instruments for little $$ if the engineers had not scooped up the best deals..
I had a tiny (for those times) h/p VOM which I swapped to roger mellon for a byte saver board with a 2408(?) EEPROM (8K I think) for my first IMSAI S-100 computer..
those WERE fun though baffling days..

After reading the "Different kind of blue" book, and getting to know the story behind this initial Thinkpad, I see that a serious ThinkPad collection isn't complete without a 701C in it. So I have searched for one on eBay for a while, without finding any. Are these available at all, and/or have they now become one of those pure collectors items that only sell for silly prices? Seeing how completely obsolete hardware-wise my 360 is today, and knowing the 700C is even more so, that could actually make a non-functional and cheaper unit interesting. It would be nice to be able to turn the old collectible on, but everything comes with a price..
On a side note; if you choose to go back to the VERY roots, the IBM 2521 ThinkPad / 700T would be the real starting point for a ThinkPad collection. That was while the ThinkPad actually was a real Pad and not a laptop/notebook. Still amazed by how far (too far..) ahead this guy was for his time, but that's not a subject for a WTB thread. However, I don't know if any these units are available at all.

and I have about a dozen 701C's (plural, not 701Cs which was the dual twist display model) in various states of perfection and more or less completeness to spare parts machines..
PLUS i have an extremely rare, now, one with the 133 mhz cpu upgrade AND a very very rare 64 meg memory part which would yield 72mg total..
in fact erik (a mod) has one which is an excellent example which he was going to do an auction of on thinkpads.com but i think he's pretty busy right now so it has not yet happened..
i see you're in the EU so if you find one from the USA the shipping is going to cost a significant part of your budget..

Thanks for your offers.

I will PM both of you later today for some further inquiries. Between Frankenpad and numerous T43 / T42 purchases, ThinkPad related spendings have been in the roof for a while now, so we'll see what price range we are talking about.

I bought a 770Z from Erik, and has good experience with the stuff he's selling. For the EU and shipping part, that's just the way it is. These items are not available here in Norway anyway, so I have to budget for the additional $50-70 shipping fees for any such purchases.

i have a 701C in immaculate condition for its age, complete with all of the original accessories and a PCMCIA CD drive. the only issue is a dead main battery but it boots into win95 once you escape out of it. i'd honestly be surprised (but in a good way) if someone on the forum has one in better shape and more complete outside of bill himself.
my original intent was to run a silent auction here on the forum, sell it to the highest bidder, and put most of the proceeds back into the forum. work has dictated my schedule, however, so my time to put into it has been nil.
i'd be open to offers but would like to try the silent auction approach if i can make the time. but, anything is for sale at the right price.

Hmm. I just did something very wrong here. In my first post I wrote 701C, but it was meant to be 700C, as written the second time, and as this thread originally was about. Then I didn't catch it before now that you guys were suddenly talking about 701Cs.. A 701C Butterfly would be nice to own as well, but it was the 700C that was the initial goal.
Sorry for the confusion, guys.

It is OK

We are human beings after all, not THINKPADS, mistakes happen

Hi everyone!
As you all know, I was looking for Thinkpad 700c. Member of this forum DK6400Brian responded on facebook and we made a deal. He lives in Europe, Me in USA. What a pleasant experience! Items arrived as described, he assisted me on every step of the way, great communication, great personality!
I would definitely trust him with my life and happy that there are still decent human beings left in this world!
Thanks Brian and hope to deal with you again and who knows, we may see each other in person as well! Hats off to you!

Nice to hear how old collectibles change hands inside this community. I am sorry for hijacking your thread (Once again..

), but I can fill in the information that my original hijack above, and my 700C vs. 701C typo, resulted in me buying a nice 701C from Bill. So two good purchases became the result of your WTB post and a random typo.
Am I still looking for a 700C as well? No. With all my recent purchases, my Thinkpad budget is definitely blown for the rest of this year.
