I have a CPU left from a desktop that I parted out, it is the fastest non-Extreme series LGA775 CPU available.

Very nice processor. I have the extreme variant, which is essentially the same but with an unlocked multiplier. But even with a locked multiplier, the Core 2 CPUs and early Core i offerings (unlike the latest Core i offerings) allow you to achieve nice overclocks by increasing the FSB frequency. It makes for a very potent machine, even today.

I believe I'm right in saying this particular one (the Q9650) is the... absolute best Intel Core 2 Quad, at 3.06 GHz.

People shouldn't think for a moment that the old Quad Cores have lost their touch... sure, the Core i-series are far more efficient, but if someone has an LGA 775 board laying around, mating it with this CPU could easily form up a very nice media machine, file or dedicated server, or even a gaming platform.

Be sure to check before buying this CPU if your board takes it. This is one of the last generation of Core 2 Quad CPUs, it only worked on the last 965-chipset boards. If you have 945(early Core 2 Duo, Pentium D), or 915(Pentium 4s only) then straight away, your board will NOT take this CPU.

Agree, it takes medium and higher i5 CPU to better this quad-core. I used to run it on Asus P5E3 board (X38 chipset) and it ran perfectly. Never bothered to overclock but it would do nicely with decent cooler.

Bump for lowered price, giving it away for 75 euros shipped!
