SOLD! ULTRA RARE 14" (4:3) T61p with native Penryn board
Posted: Sat Mar 29, 2014 10:42 am
Another *very* wild kitten offered exclusively to the TPF members by silly old me...the rarest and most desirable of all 14" (4:3) T6x machines is here...
the basics:
T61p (8891-CTO)
T9300 (2.5GHz)
2GB RAM
100GB/7200rpm HDD (no OS installed)
14.1" 1400x1050 LCD
128MB nVidia FX570M
Intel abg wireless
Verizon WWAN
Modem
Gigabit Ethernet
CD-RW/DVD combo drive
Ultranav
Secure chip
9-cell Li-Ion in "green"
Win XP COA (damaged)
Middleton's BIOS installed
90W genuine Lenovo AC adapter included
Whether you choose to look at it as an unusual and impressive example of the final 4:3 ThinkPad, or a base for an "ultimate" FrankenPad, this is one heck of a rare find.
The machine is in very good physical condition with some light wear in the usual spots, and I'd conservatively rate it at 8.75 on a 1-10 scale.
While we all know that there are no "safe date" boards that shipped with 4:3 T61p units, I've subjected this poor thing to some exceptionally thorough stress testing and found it to be in flawless working condition. If anyone wants specific tests performed and pictures taken while these are running, feel free to reach out and ask.
Although the tag from the bottom is missing, the serial number is clearly visible in BIOS, and the parts lookup matches the actual configuration of this unit:
FWIW, I've never seen a 14" T61p with integrated Verizon WWAN (no bump on the lid either). And yes, the visual inspection has confirmed that the laptop sports the elusive 42W7874 native Penryn "p" board...
The (expired) warranty check dates this laptop as a 08/03 unit:
It goes without saying that I've got all the parts required to upgrade this rare bird to almost any configuration imaginable. Feel free to inquire.
I'm really not interested in downgrading this thing of beauty or parting it out. You'd have to come up with a *very* convincing offer for me to even contemplate doing so...
PM or email me directly to tataslonATaol.com with any questions/concerns.

It's pretty tough - even for myself - to put a price tag on this rare and unusual ThinkPad. Not too many 14" Penryn-based "p" units were built to begin with, and the ones with a stock T9300 - let alone integrated WWAN - are exceptionally rare...mainly because the original owners would only have them pried out of their cold dead hands even nowadays...Start Date:
