I have two different T400 machines for sale. Is there any way to tell what kind of screen is in them without having to tear anything apart to find out?

Use the 7-character TYPE or PRODUCTID from the bottom sticker and check specs in Quick Path here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/landing.page

I'm quite aware of that site, however unless I am missing something, that site isn't going to show you what type of actual display is in the unit or not (ie Samsung, LG etc). Especially if the screen has been replaced. That's what I am inquiring about without having to take anything apart

Do the "parts lookup"...

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... ookup.page

That will give you an idea what the machine shipped with, and whether the screen is CCFL or LED.

This is a bit tedious but PC Wizard will give you hardware details including the panel model number.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/pc-wizard.html

You can then use this Wiki page to figure out the panel type

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display

Hope that helps.
