REMOVED. No longer for sale.

Hello all!

I have on hand an old (okay, VERY old) Thinkpad 600E that I have no longer have any use for, and I was wondering there's still a demand for this old line of TP's.

At this point I'm not "officially" putting it up for sale, but looking to you kind gents for feedback on whether there would be any demand for it. If I get enough "sure, go for it" type of comments, then I'll officially put it up for sale and include links to images (I've yet to take photos of it).

Here are the need-to-know's:

The GOOD :

- 600E, P2 366 MHz, 288 MB RAM
- TYPE 2645-8AU, S/N 78-GLYA3 11/99
- LCD is in near perfect condition (good backlight, neutral colors and no wonky pixels)
- Keyboard and trackpoint are in A1 condition (cosmetic and functional)
- Screen hinge is still very stiff (no loose play at all when open)
- Floppy drive with external enclosure/adapter
- Lite-On combo drive (DVD, CD-RW)
- Internal modem, ports, speakers and power adapter/charger all OK
- 2x Xircom "Realport" PCMCIA cards (1x ethernet, 1x ethernet/56k modem combo)
- 1x WarpStar WiFi PCMCIA card (Atheros chipset)
- Very nice padded carrying case included

The "MEH" :

- Keyboard has been "frenchified" with stickers (not easily removed); it's still very much a "US" layout though

The NOT SO GOOD:

- No main battery
- No hard drive
- CMOS battery needs replacing (throws error codes on power-up)
- All port and screw head covers have been removed
- Rubberized covering is gummy and easily scratched off (gives off a peculiar odor too), the palmrest's metal is rusting (bubbling)

Shipping would be from New Brunswick, Canada. Ideally, I'd prefer to keep shipping to within Canada and the lower 48 (contuguous) States.

Forum Rules require you to put in an asking price as well.

I realize that. But that's kind of awkward at this point. I have absolutely NO clue as to what I should ask for something like this. I mean, is it worth anything? Is it some rare collector's item? Is it worthless junk?

In that sense I'm hoping some of you will offer some ideas as to what they think it's worth.

If the general consensus is that it's not worth anything then I'll withdraw the sale. Simple as that.

As to the potential value...I bought a very similarly equipped 600e a few years ago on this forum, that was possibly in better condition, for $20 including shipping. Used it for a long while, until the CCFL went out. Now, I don't consider it worth the cost to repair it, even though I really like the design of the 600 series.

They are way to common to have much collector value, and way to out dated to be of much use as a computer.

Machines like this are generally given away for the price of shipping.

Your ThinkPad, your call.

not junk..
IBM made some huge number of 600 series thinkpads so there have to be many many thousands of these hanging around in closets and attics and even still in use..

might be best used as spare parts..

FWIW i have a 560 which still works just fine which i loaned to a forum member, 5 years ago, for a year while he was in hospital..

in your case, just offer it, if it is still available, for cost of shipping, to one of the forum members who makes a small hobby of refurbishing old thinkpads..
