Found: TP 760XD LCD shell

#1 Post by that1nerd » Thu Nov 06, 2014 10:17 am

I've recently acquired a 760XD, but the outer shell is pretty badly damaged.

The top shell has a nasty looking hole next to one of the hinges. There's also damage to the center piece (where the status lights are), and a large gouged-out dent towards the center. (Almost like a shovel landed on top of it.)

Luckily, the LCD screen itself is still intact. (A true testament to the engineers at IBM. 8) )

Would anyone out there happen to have a complete top shell they're willing to part with? I'm not too picky about the condition of the rubber coating (since the laptop itself is rather beat up), as long as the underlying plastic shell is in decent shape. I don't need the hinges, or the wire harness, but I need everything else.

I'd be willing to buy, but would prefer to work out a trade. I've got plenty of spare parts for a 760XL, among other miscellaneous laptop components ranging from the mid 90s to today.

Edit: Found a 760EL parts unit on eBay with a complete top shell.

Have an XD with a bad motherboard but otherwise cosmetically good. If your motherboard is good just swap it in. I can actually install Windows but it will not install correct drivers for the IDE controller so the CD is not available in Windows although I can use it in DOS. Very frustrating. I live in 46260 zip code.

I had a similar issue with a 760XL. Turned out that I forgot to set the boot order in system setup.

I'll send you a PM if I don't get any other leads.

Thanks for the heads up I will try resetting the boot order but the CD on the 760 is not bootable I don't think.

*bump*

(I know it's been four weeks at least, but I'm finally getting back to my old projects.)
