WTB: recovery disks for t60, t61 or later

#1 Post by andre#4 » Wed Nov 26, 2014 11:56 pm

If you have any recovery discs for t60 or t61, please tell me what you have and at what price. Interested in xp, vista, especially vista 64 bit.

May want t400 discs if they would work inside a t61.

Thanks.

While the general tone of the forum is to help those that are generally clueless, your answer has already been posted for the this question. Several people offer what your looking for....or not looking for. If you want the discs, you need to look over the market post, posts.

The recovery discs are different between these series because of the driver and software included on them, but also consider that installing from the recovery discs puts three copies of everything on your harddrive, the installed OS/drivers/programs, a backup copy of each on a hidden partitions, and disc images so you can burn a new set of recovery discs.

Now consider that be it vista or XP you will be getting an old OS and will need to replace most of it when you install the latest service pack (sp2 for vista or sp3 for XP), then you'll also need to replace all those drivers with more upto date ones and all the bundles software (often referred to as bloatware) will also be circa 2006/2007 and need to be replaced.

Also I've never seen a factory 64bit disc set for these series.

In my opinion your best bet is to install from an updated windows disc then install the latest drivers from Lenovo which you can get here in this forum as well as most of the thinkvantage software. You won't get the recovery partition but it would only have the same outdated stuff in it and you can use better methods of backing up your drive like disc cloning.

If you want an upto date disc with XP, vista (32 or 64bit) I have them starting at only $10 (xp pro with sp3 and sata added) or $20 (vista with sp2 added). These include the original COA with product code.

If you insist on an original recovery set I can probably make you a set or upload them to you, or there may still be some offered for sale by others here.

FWIW, I can confirm that Tuus' Win XP-SP3 SATA disc works great -- e.g., I just used one to do a fresh install on a 1TB 7200 RPM HGST HDD in my W700 and it was a smooth installation.
