Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter. *PIC*
I recently received a combo adapter with a T60 that I purchased, part number 40Y7649. It only came with one cable, the one that connects to a wall socket. It's missing the cable with the cigarette lighter adapter on one end, and the four-hole round plug on the other. Where can I get this? Is it a standard part that I can order anywhere?

Re: Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter.
This is for a 16V AC/DC adapter so I don't know if it will work with the 20V version: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 84#p513484 (FRU 73P4510)
I might have a 40Y7649 at home; I'll look around tonight. That's a typical situation I've seen with the AC/DC combo supplies sold on eBay. Many of them are without the DC cord. I wonder if they're like missing dryer socks and that somewhere in the universe there's a whole herd of them waiting to be claimed by their owners.

Re: Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter.
Are you shure? I have 40Y7656 and it was shipped with the same DC power cord like on ebay link in this topic. It have gray strip but no label on it to identify this cord. I have used it couple of times in car and it works fine.rkawakami wrote:This is for a 16V AC/DC adapter

Re: Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter.
Yes. I posted that picture of the DC cable in June 2009. At that time, I only had Thinkpads that used the 16V adapters. According to my records, my first 20V system was an X60 that I bought Dec. 2009.

Re: Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter.
I have both of 16v and 20v combo adapters. The DC cord is the same. It was also used by a DC adapter Targus put out. I had one of the Targus adapters and used the cord when I broke the DC plug on one of the Lenovo adapters.
Currently using: A W500, a W520, an X201T, an X220T, an X61T, a 14" T60P,a 15" UXGA T60P and a W700.
Currently idle: A spare W500, a spare X61T, a spare W700, a 14" T61, a 15" SXGA+ T60, a 14" T60, and my first Thinkpad, a 770X.

Re: Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter.
I didn't find any 20V AC/DC adapters that used the DC power cord in question but I did find a couple of 16V FRU 22P9003 units. No FRU tag was attached but it should be the same as I've posted before. I verified continuity on the jacks/pins and here's what I found:
<-- Click on pictures for larger (640x480) versions
The cigarette lighter plug is wired such that the positive voltage applied to the tip of the plug goes to the two right holes in the 4-pin socket (note that the "flat" part of that end of the cable is "up"). The ground (negative) voltage on the two metal springs along the sides of the cigarette lighter plug goes to the two left holes. If you pull apart the cable from the cigarette lighter plug, you'll see the Empower plug. This is what some airlines use to supply power to passenger seats. Inside the shell of the Empower plug, there's four pins. The two "wider" spaced pins are - and + power. The other two are wired together. It's basically a way to enable/disable power to the - and + pins. Think of it as a off/on switch. When there's no Empower plug inserted into the airplane's socket, no voltage is present. Once you insert the Empower plug, the two pins act like an "on" switch and that allows power to be routed up to the adapter.

Re: Looking for cable for AC/DC combo adapter. *PIC*
I looked on eBay and there are a couple of sellers selling the 72w 16v combo with the DC cord for half of what the cord alone costs.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-AC-DC-ADAPT ... 27f22692e6
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-IBM-72W-Thi ... 27f696c3e0
As I said before, it is the same cord. I use DC power a lot and have swapped the cords many times.
