Posted: Sun Feb 22, 2015 12:46 pm
This thing of beauty is now officially for sale...
the basics:
ThinkPad T61 (6460-EFU)
T8100(2.1GHz).....................now T9300 (2.5GHz 6MB L2 cache)
2GB RAM.............................now 8GB (2x4GB matched Elpida DIMMs with heatsinks)
160GB 5400rpm HD................now 512GB Crucial M4 SSD
15.4in 1680x1050 LCD............now 15.4" 1920x1200 (LG Philips WUXGA, FRU 42T0361)
128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
CDRW/DVDRW
Intel 802.11agn wireless.........now Atheros 9380 (450Mbps on my dual-band router, YMMV)
Bluetooth
Modem
1Gb Ethernet
UltraNav
Secure chip
Fingerprint reader
6c Li-Ion............................now 9-cell Panasonic in "green", less than 20 cycles
Middleton's modded BIOS installed
WinVista Business COA
Genuine Lenovo 90W AC adapter included
With a project of mine hopefully getting done by the end of this week, this fine custom ThinkPad will become redundant and I would like to secure a good new home for it. Whoever ends up owning it will NOT be disappointed, that much I can guarantee.
known imperfections:
- Light wear and tear on the outside shell
- A razor-thin-scratch about 1 cm long in the lower LH corner of an otherwise immaculate LG WUXGA screen. No clue how it got there - but mentioned it must be - although it's visible only on certain backgrounds and under particular angles.
the good:
- Can you say October of 2008? As "safe" as it will ever get for a *61-series machine with nVidia graphics
- While I'm not going to state that the laptop in question was babied, it has received nothing but utmost love and care in this household.
- Apart from the imperfection mentioned above, the screen is stunningly bright and clean. As good as it gets for a CCFL-lit TN panel, period.
overall:
I've put a *ton* of effort in setting this machine up exactly the way it is, and it paid off in the respect of performance if one considers that we're talking about a 7-year old platform. While I would be willing to pull out the SSD, RAM, media drive and the battery that's as far as "downgrading" the system will go. In plain English, I'm not interested in parting this laptop out whatsoever.
terms of sale:
I'm far more interested in placing this laptop in a loving home than I am in maximizing its sale price, since I'll never be able to recover my initial investment to begin with. A *lot* will depend on who you are and how well I know you.
"First come first served" may or may not apply.
