Hello all,

Installing a W500 fan in a T60 and looking for a hold down bracket to keep the heatsink in place. My understanding is I can modify one from a T61.

Thanks,

Bruce

Check this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=105114
It shows you how to improve cooling.
The 10th picture shows you the bracket with a small change (cut-off between the blue marker signs).

Thanks RBS,

I was looking for this post and thanks for pointing me to it. It is a great post showing all of the heatsinks, helped me sort out my box of random heatsinks.

The picture shows the bracket mod with the T61p HS but I am guessing it works about the same with the T500 HS. Looks like I don't need the T61 bracket after all. I now remember I did this to my T60p.

Thanks again,

Bruce

You can modify the T61 brackets, one is a perfect fit (gpu location), the other (chipset location) needs some fabrication to make fit.

I have dozens of these brackets and will accept any reasonable offer and will ship them worldwide

In fact I was offering them free with purchase of any parts for frankenpadding a while back. I had planned on modifying them so they are ready to install as with the T60 bracket mods it's a tight fit in the T60 case and if anyone wants to develop a mod and sell them I'd be glad to work a deal supplying the needed brackets. Ideally soldering or brazing an extension so it can clip under the T60frame or attach somewhere. I did experiment by attaching a small weight that held it in place by contact with the keyboard. It worked flawlessly, but wasn't a very professional looking mod because it relys on the keyboard to hold it in place. I haven't done any further development since, but my frankie is still running very cool with this bracket.

Anyone who wants one drop me a PM with an offer and quantity desired and I can get some out to you asap.

ps. with a discrete board the upper bracket isn't very important because it only secures over the chipset controller which doesn't produce a lot of heat. The reverse is true on the Intel boards.
