WTB: T430 Rear lcd cover assembly
WTB: T430 Rear lcd cover assembly
Like the title says, looking to buy the rear lcd cover assembly for a T430. Guess I handled my thinkpad too roughly carrying it by the lcd screen one too many times and the metal threads that hold the lcd hinge screws to the lcd cover came out. I tried epoxy but it's only a temporary fix till they come out again due to the immense stress on that area I guess.
Re: WTB: T430 Rear lcd cover assembly
those little metal thread doohickey things fall out WAY TOO EASILY on the T420s and T430s models. I have replaced many of these rear covers due to this on those models. Glue like you mention also works in a pinch.maro98 wrote:Guess I handled my thinkpad too roughly and the metal threads that hold the lcd hinge screws to the lcd cover came out.
Apparently the same problem carries over to the non "s" modeled machines as well......
If the non "s" version of the T430 uses the same rear panel than the "s" model, then I have an extra rear panel I can sell to you.
T42 (type 2373)
T43 (type 2668) x2
T60 (type 2007)

Re: WTB: T430 Rear lcd cover assembly
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, unfortunately I don't believe the T430s cover fits on the non "s" model. My sister has a T430s and I compared the two and hers looks thinner. I didn't attempt swapping them though to see if it would work, so if anyone else knows for certain that they're compatible, please let me know.
Still looking for a back cover. I've just been living with it for now and keep the lcd up and open all the time with minimal movement. I might try looking for some industrial strength epoxy with the highest bond strength I can find and see if that works. I've just been using the cheap stuff so far with crappy results.
If I had a spare one with the same issue to experiment with, I've considered drilling some very small pilot holes in either side of the holder for those screw things and the the screw things themselves and trying to insert a couple of pins to hold them in. This is what they should have done in the first place IMO.
