the basics:

ThinkPad T42p

P M 735 (1.7 GHz Dothan)
1GB (2x512MB) RAM
40GB/5400rpm HDD
15 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD
128MB ATI FireGL T2
CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner
Intel 802.11b wireless
Bluetooth/Modem
1Gb Ether
UltraNav
Sec Chip
FPR
WinXP Pro COA
No AC adapter included

known imperfections:

- small crack in the plastic on the back by the power plug
- hairline crack in the palmrest by the HDD entrance point
- several pixel-size dust specs in the LCD
- hard drive has a large number of re-allocated sectors and is noisy
- DVD RW multiburner is selective on which media it chooses to read
- Panasonic 9-cell battery reports "green" condition and low cycles but will NOT charge
- normal wear and tear for a ThinkPad from this era

I've ran PC Doctor for DOS tests on the system and haven't come up with any failures. The machine boots into Linux just fine as well, once I was able to locate a CD that the drive would actually respond to.

This is a decent project/parts machine for someone with more time on their hands than myself.
