WTB: 24R7684 Recovery CDs for T42
WTB: 24R7684 Recovery CDs for T42
T42 2373-1WU. I believe 24R7684 is the correct PN. XP boots only into safe mode - BSOD when u go to reset display attributes. Recovery partition must have damage as well as I can't perform system recovery - some blank screens. Beginning to suspect HDD problems. Trying to recover this old friend...

If nobody comes forward I have a set of discs for the T41 which will work (barring a few drivers) on the T42. Let me know and I can either burn and mail you a copy or host some .iso files for you to download.

Re: WTB: 24R7684 Recovery CDs for T42
Hi,
I'm looking for something similar! I have a T42p that I'm trying to revive with a fresh install of windows XP but I believe I need an IBM OEM XP disc in order to make sure the Product Key that I have is valid for the installation. If you do decide to host the iso file I'd be grateful if you could let me know and I could perhaps paypal you something in thanks.
Cheers,
David

Re: WTB: 24R7684 Recovery CDs for T42
i have a set of recovery CD's in my archives for many thinkpads up to about the time of the sale to lenovo..
transnote, A31p and most all T40,41,42,43 and maybe even T60..
a drawer full of CD's..
i am unsure if i well SELL any of them.. i was thinking of making ISO's but i'm unsure if my server has sufficient disk space for all those CD images..

I used this set on my T42p not long ago, aside from I think only a missing wireless driver, everything else loaded up.

Brilliant! Thanks!
Re: WTB: 24R7684 Recovery CDs for T42
Problem Solved: My XP SP3 T42 rebooted after BSOD when I tried to change the display resolution beyond the very basic setting. I have been looking for CDs to revert to factory settings. Thanks to ALL respondents.
I FINALLY paid attention to the boot message (F8): "Do you want to suppress reboot after crash?" [or something like that]. YES!!! Thanks to IBM for including this option - it's missing on older Asus and HP boxes.
Once I did that I saw it crashed in ati2dvag.dll with error code 0x0000008e. Then a quick search showed this to be a pervasive problem. I read the solutions and decided to replace that code - the size of the active one that crashed was quite a bit larger that the one in SP3 update files.
I went into Windows\System32 and renamed the ati2dvag.dll (I think it's size was high 200K to 300K). I then went into the Service Pack3 files and copied the SP3 version of ati2dvag to win\System32 (size was about 197KB). I have no idea why this code wasn't replaced in the SP3 update. Machine now works and display resolution works at max supported resolution.
Suggestion to all: Go to My Computer > Properties >Advanced >Settings.
Under "System failure", UNCHECK the box "Automatically Restart"
:-)
