WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
I have a relative coming to India from New York on Tuesday. I need:
1 T60 Motherboard - 41W1456
1 T500 Fan - 45N5492
Do any of you have any of the above parts and can deliver or get the parts picked up, around NYC - Queens? Alternatively, please do suggest a warehouse where I can have my relative go and shop in person, if available.
Unfortunately, I knew this a day late, and most online parts shops are closed on Saturday.

Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
The 41W1456 is a standard 4:3 T60 motherboard with the X1400 GPU, and there's plenty of alternate revisions; see e.g. http://www.forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopi ... 9&t=107832 for a few different options. Maybe it is cheaper to pics up a complete, working (or "cosmetically busted") 4:3 T60 having the X1400 mobo, rather than chasing this very specific mobo itself?
Craighslist (or similar?) in New York, perhaps?
I just tried to see what T60's are for sale within 100 miles from Queens, New York (I used zipcode = 11101); check these out for yourself: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... PrefLoc=99
If you need to get detailled specifications of a T60 with known model/typenumber, see the following thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=115772
The 45N5492 fan is available from http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-CPU-Coo ... xy4dNSrqBZ (based in New York); perhaps they will allow you to pick it up locally?
PS: Sorry for this very lazy reply...

There must be 20 of the parts you want stashed in the backrooms of shops on 42nd street.
I would head to 42nd street and ask at every computer shop.

Is there some sort of IT Hardware area out there? Which Avenue?
Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
I take it you're trying to build the cooler T60 with ATI in this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=114717?
I do happen to have a ATI X1300 (Rev. 3) motherboard (FRU 42T0161), if you're interested. I'm in the Queens area.
I don't have a W500/T500 fan, but from reading above, that part seems somewhat easier to acquire. But if you're still looking for something and willing to make do with a heatsink/fan from a 14.1" T61 with discrete graphics (I don't have the FRU; I'd need to open up the laptop to look), I have one of those, as well.

I wish you had replied a day or two earlier.
Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
Ah, I'm sorry. I take it you can't have your relative pick it up before leaving Tuesday (i.e. later today)? Or have you already acquired the parts? If it's the former, perhaps we can still arrange a meeting somehow.
Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
Yeah, I already had them run around a couple of places and don't want to keep nagging them last minute.
Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
I see. Well, if your relative doesn't mind and happens to be nearby in Queens, I may be able to just drop it off. You know, I find it quite funny, because I had just purchased a different motherboard for the T60 and was planning to take this one out, and then I see this thread. So I say, don't worry about inconveniencing me a little bit; let's see if we can't get this to your relative before the flight
.

Sadly, they will sit on those until someone comes in desperate enough to pay twenty times their worth.jaspen-meyer wrote:There must be 20 of the parts you want stashed in the backrooms of shops on 42nd street.

How many computer shops are actually left on 42nd street? Not to mention that even when there were quite a few of them between W30th and W45th, their prices were nothing short of atrocious, due to the insanely high rents in NYC which has driven most of them out of business altogether...jaspen-meyer wrote:There must be 20 of the parts you want stashed in the backrooms of shops on 42nd street.

Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
Most refer to them as "Camera Shops" and there are still plenty despite "going out of business" every other week. The fact that there are so few in the square proper now, is more due to the increased value of real estate than any other reason. Visit the side streets and avenues surrounding Times Square and Herald Square and in-between, and you will find them...much like cockroaches.ajkula66 wrote:How many computer shops are actually left on 42nd street? And the chances of one of these carrying decade old ThinkPad parts - let alone for a reasonable price - are...? Right.Radioguy wrote:

I used to work on W36th between 7th and 8th for several years (roughly 2003-2007) and watched these shops go down one by one, to be replaced by various food establishments for the most part...Visit the side streets and avenues surrounding Times Square and Herald Square and in-between, and you will find them...much like cockroaches.

The former are good, the latter are not.ajkula66 wrote:And the chances of one of these carrying decade old ThinkPad parts - let alone for a reasonable price - are...? Right.Radioguy wrote:

Oh, they remain, albeit not nearly as many as in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and so on. There's probably 1/4 the amount of them now.ajkula66 wrote:Radioguy wrote:

Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
Yeah, my relative had indeed visited 42nd Street. He said, of all the shops that were there a few years back, only a couple remain, and they didn't have my parts in stock.
Re: WTB: T60/T500 parts urgent from someone around NYC
I have a suitable board for you if you still need it, T60 4:3 aspect ratio, x1400 graphics in excellent conditon, it's been well tested and only removed in order to upgrade to a T61 board. The price is $39, and I have a couple shipping options so if interested we could discuss costs, or if you want to consider upgrading I have some T61 boards that are extremely rare with nVidia graphics, brand new in IBM boxes that you aren't likely to find anywhere at any price, or also have a couple refurbished T61 boards also if you're on a budget.
